Revit 2023.1 Instalation Error

Hi,

i'm trying to upgrade revit to 2023.1 but always get error 101, when updating from desktop app.

If i try to install from installer (Revit 2023_1.exe) it requests RVT.msi. I've downloaded the original installer from produts management but get incompatible file and error 1603.

The prompt for the original RVT.msi occurs when there is one, or more, Revit installation files have been modified by a third party.  In these instances, the installer needs to compare the file's content to the original to ensure that third party info is not negatively impacted.

If you receive an incompatible message when selecting the RVT.msi file from a newly downloaded version of the Revit 2023 installer, this indicates that your installation of Revit 2023 used the original version.  This is not the same version that is available for download today.  I would recommend using the following links to download the original Revit 2023 installer and point to that version of the RVT.msi file:

Could you check in Windows Add/Remove Programs and report the version of Autodesk Identity Manager?

Thanks

After further investigation, we believe the root of this problem is a newer version of Autodesk Identity Manager being installed.  If you have a version greater than 1.2.77.0, uninstalling it should allow the Revit 2023.1 Update to complete successfully.

SOOOoo... Why the heck don't you put that file in the bindle with all the other installation files so that 10's of thousands or Revit users don't have to go through this hassle? EVERYONE has some kind of third party app installed. We have to since Autodesk doesn't know or care how we use their software and what kind of funtionality is important. :-). Sorry, I couldn't resist bashing the mother ship while I'm here.

I too have the same issue. It's looking for RVT.MSI and can't find it. The only version of that on my computer is one setting in a Revit2020 folder and it does not work. I've checked Autodesk Identity Manager and it's not there in the Windows Add/Remove Programs.

Any suggestions? We need this update to be installed.

I too have the same problem and cannot install the update. In looking in Windows Add/Remove Programs for the Autodesk Identity Manager it's not there. I can't remove it.

Any suggestions?

I too have the same problem.  I attached a screen shot of the error the installation program reported.  RVT.msi is not on my computer and I don't have Autodesk Identity Manager either.   The error is in the installation program.  AUTODESK you need to fix this pronto your user base is depending on you.  The path being cited by the installation program does not exist beyond the TEMP subdirectory.

The question about Identity Manager only applied to those individuals that received an error 101 when attempting to install the Revit 2023.1 Update.

The RVT.msi prompt is a separate issue that occurs when there is one or more Revit installation file has been modified by a third party application.  In these instances, the installer requires access to the original install media in order to compare the file's content to the original.  This allows the installer to update these files without overwriting third party info that would negatively those applications.

Pointing to a previous version of the RVT.msi file will not work because the RVT.msi needs to match the exact version of Revit that was installed on that system.  For Revit 2023, we have released two full installers and you can determine which one was used by checking the Version value under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\Revit\2023\REVIT-05:0409 registry key.  If the version is 23.0.11.19, then you are using the current version, which is available for download from your accounts portal.  If the version is 23.0.1.318, then you are using the original version, which can be downloaded using the following link:

I already have the update installed. Even though it gives error 101. What I did was uninstall Personal acellarator for Revit, uninstall Generative Design, then I ran the installer of the initial version of Revit and finally the update. Even with the error, it installed and is working fine. I think the problem is the upgrade installer

To recover the initial installation, I go to the portal.

Unfortunately all versions are displayed except the French version, and this is the one I need.

Had the same problem with RVT.ini. @Thanos603 reply with the 23.0.1.318 version got me through...

Although, Family templates are lost and had to be reinstalled.

When trying this solution- https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-i...
I cannot run  RCLC.msi or RCLEENU.msi. Error:

Tried to find and install Family Templates from here:https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/revit/troubleshooting/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-revit-2...

But there are no TEMPLATES just LIBRARIES.

How to get TEMPLATES ??

@Thanos603

I appreciate your response to this matter. I checked the registry using "regedit" command and found that the version of the installer is the current version 23.0.11.19. I will have to go to our portal to download the original installer. Forgive me now for the following stupid question as we are an office that does our own IT management when it comes to Autodesk software.

I downloaded the links you indicated below in case it was the original version and found that I downloaded 5 self extracting zip files. I assume that when I download the original installer version 23.0.11.19 that the same thing will occur. I will get a number of self extracting zip files. Where is the RVT.msi in those files? Do I just point to the first self extracting file when the Revit 2023.1 Update asks for the RVT.msi?

Honestly, I think this update could be have been handled far better than the way it's being handled. Considering the cost of the software we all pay, updates should not have to be this difficult. At the very least you should be mentioning this issue somewhere. I just checked the summary in the Autodesk Desktop App and the Release Notes and found nothing that mentions this possible issue.

When you extrat .zip files, there should be RVT.msi file somewhere inside. Use search to find it. Then install 2023.1 update and when the error pops-up, browse to the location of missing RVT.msi to the folder where  RVT.msi from .zip files are.

This has still not been resolved.

Is Autodesk really expecting every user to just hit this problem, have to search for a solution to find this thread and undertake an obscure workflow? I've been waiting literally years for a feature in this update and now we get burnt once again.

Fix the installation.

I found a solution.  The file RVT.msi was on a different Virtual Drive.  My Z drive as opposed to the C drive that the programs or apps are installed on.  Once I located the RVT.msi file the installation went smoothly.  Hopefully this helps some or all of you find peace and resolve your dilemna.

As I found out, this type of error is there for ages with different types of software and versions.
