Revit 2021 content won't install

I've downloaded the content and template libraries. Both stall out and complain that they can't install all the files. I've closed all applications and rebooted as directed, but same result.

@trhaia

Welcome to Autodesk Community.

Have you tried to reinstall your Revit 2021 instead?

Some component (i.e. libraries) may have been conflicted during this installation.

On top of that, you shouldn't need to install this libraries separately, main installation should include all of those libraries and templates, you can try Browser Download method for the reinstallation process.

Same error.

Just extract content to another location, then move it to C:\Program Data\Autodesk\RVT 2021

Do not extract to default location.

What version of Windows are you on?

Also can you try the following Browser Download?

I am getting the same errors with browser download and downloading the content separately.  I even tried doing a deployment setup and all the content didn't download.

How does stuff work in the beta testing and then go live and not at all?

Please refer to the Installation Changes in This Release section of the Revit 2021 help:
Default content is not installed with software installation. Only the core content (templates and sample files) needed to run the software is installed during software installation. Base families for US, UK, and German can be selected during installation. Additional content can be downloaded from: Content Download Page.

I downloaded the RVT2021_ENU_Imperial_FamTemplates_Templates.exe file and was able to extract the contents successfully.  I would recommend downloading a new copy of this file and try extracting the contents from it.  If that failed, it may be a Windows permission issue blocking the extraction of files to the C:\ProgramData folder.  You should be able to avoid this by extracting the contents to another location and then copying them to C:\Program Data\Autodesk\RVT 2021 as Valdis suggested.

Hello,

The error depicted is a result of Windows needing explicit Administrator privileges to replace an existing file within the C:\ProgramData folder.  Re-running the content executable using the "Run as Administrator" option should result in a successful extraction of the entire package.

I hope this helps.

Gerry

I had the same issue and solved it by making a clean uninstall of all autodesk products, restarting and installing 2021

This is the solution that I used independently. It worked.

Running the .exe files as administrator does work without any error messages, but requires selecting the appropriate folders manually which allows for errors. I think if the user does NOT want the content for some reason, there should be an option to OPT OUT during the installation process, rather than have to go through the process manually which has been frustrating, time consuming, and potentially unreliable.

I can't get it to install either. My machine had low disk space on C:, and it ran out during installation despite downloading the full package, and it seemed to permanently eat space on C: with files I can't find. I freed up more space (plenty) but it still won't install.

Thankfully a coworker had no issues installing it so I am just going to grab the libraries from his machine.

I have several older versions of Revit installed, and have had issues with their content libraries installing as well -- I have seen them just recopy an older content library and call it the current version (i.e. when installing Revit 2019, it copies the previously installed Revit 2017 content library into the Revit 2019 folder.) Pretty bizarre.

Run as Admin does seem to fix the install error, but its not good you have to do this, let alone have to go hunting on forums for the answer. Can't the installer run this correctly?

Also. Deployments dont work probably for the same reason, but you cant just run the command batch file as elevated to fix it.

I wonder how was this not tested on a system that has UAC enabled?

There are tons of PC setup's .. they can't verify them all.

However Autodesk products require some Admin rights. This has been this way for as long as I can remember

I disagree, they just poorly delivered an installer that couldnt be bothered doing it correctly.

ive been deploying adesk products for 15 years and with local admin rights, never had to run as admin until revit2021.

Actually dont get me started on trying to install off a deployment. What a mess...
