Maya 2020, CentOS 7.7: Unable to initialize adlm

I'm trying to install maya 2020 on centos 7.7.

After installing Maya with "Setup", I open maya and choose the "Enter a serial number" to activate maya, but it shows an error: "Unable to initialize adlm, Internal Error Message: Service not installed, Error Code 20".

I also checked the service "adsklicensing" with systemctl, and it's active (running).

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

This OS needs a multi-user license.   Do you have that?

I actually managed to install both maya 2019 and maya 2020 on fedora 31 and centos 7.7.

I find that it is the `FLEXNET` client did not get installed correctly, so I run the script `toolkitinstall.sh` and `install_fnp.sh` in `/opt/Autodesk/Adlm/FLEXnet/bin`.

Then Maya works!!!! (with manually enter key)

thank you very much. as a beginner in linux family, please give us toolkitinstall.sh  script. I installed maya 2020 properly and had no problem in installing. but it does not lunch. even shows no any error or message about the problem or ways to solution. I installed on centos 7.7 1908 core. thanks a lot.

The answer from @Anonymous is the correct one, but just in case anyone still has trouble ( @Anonymous ), I've written a longer-format guide for the exact steps I took to get Maya 2020 running on CentOS 8. Since I documented how I found the dependencies, this might be useful for CentOS 7 as well.

You can find the guide on my GitHub:

https://github.com/bxbrenden/Maya-2020-Installation-CentOS-8

Hopefully the above is helpful for those who are still having issues. Please note that according to the supported OS list, CentOS 8 is not supported. But so far I found it to work fine. The one exception to this is installing Arnold. The Arnold installer relies on Python 2.x which is not installed in CentOS 8 since Python 2 is EOL.

Hi Brenden,

I followed the installation instructions for installing Maya 2020 on Ubuntu. I got it to work, but I have a color management error and I was wondering if you had the same error on Centos? In preferences the color management tab is pretty much greyed out. Lastly,  would you recommend just using Centos?

Thanks for you time.

Hi Julius,

I should clarify my last post; I said, "works fine", but I just meant that it eventually installed and ran. I got a free Maya license through work, and I wanted to try it out. Figuring out how to install it on CentOS8 was just a fun personal challenge for me.

I had such a hard time installing Maya and getting all the licensing stuff to work that I never even began using Maya once I got it up and running. I just went back to using Blender which, IMHO, is now up-to-snuff with industry standards like Maya. Plus it's free, libre, and open-source.

Sorry, I wish I could be of more help.

Hi,

Regardless that was pretty vital for me. I am in school and it helped
me out immensely, so I tip my hat to you. Lastly Blender seems amazing.
I'm planning on learning it and creating a workflow that is more
reliant on free/libre/opens source software. I personally don't care
much for Maya. I really like Houdini. I rather use my average level
understanding to wrap my head around that. Anyways I just wanted to
thank you. I wish you nothing but the best.

Sincerely,
JC
