Maya 2017 Ubuntu RMB button makes screen black with pie menus

Title says it all.  Maya runs just fine, but clicking on the RMB on the viewport turns the whole screen black and shows the pie menus.  It is very annoying.

RMB Clicking on the timeline works fine.

 This is with the maya student edition.
