License Issue

Hey was wondering if someone would be able to help me. I am currently running Architecture 2012. My main computer is a desk top that I run in my office. When I purchased my Suite I was allowed to install on my surface pro 3 for when I may need to do work outside of my office. I do not work out of my office unless it is a family thing where I have to be there. Last time I used it out of the office was about a year ago when my 7th grandchild was born. So the other day I needed to watch two others after school. Thought that it would not be a problem till I tried to open the program. Kept crashing. So, I gave up. When I returned back to my office it would still would not work. Tried reinstalling. Didn't work. I don't have a service subscription so asking Autodesk for a solution might not be an option. Have activation code for my Surface pro but can not find where to input it. Tried with the 30 day trial after second reinstallation. Thought that would give me the opportunity to in put the activation code. Wouldn't show that screen and told me that my serial number was already used. Any suggestions to solve this problem are appreciated.

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

The 2012 product is not designed to run under the latest OS and a surface pro.

When you launch the program there should be a run button and activate button as well.  Are you not seeing that?

Does the product work if you go in trial mode?

Hey Mark,

Thanks for replying to my post. Sorry for the delay in responding. Been a day. The program used to work properly. Currently running Win 10 on my desktop and seems to be fine. Tried reinstall again on my surface pro. Gave me 6 days to run the program. Did not give me a red radio button. But did give me a license error with a red triangle symbol.

Opened a drawing and crashed when I tried to save.

The repair button takes me to the serial number input.

After hitting finish the program opens. The "exchange" pop up opens and says that I do not have a connection. Then when I try to draw a line or tap any icon in the ribbon, the program crashes. The report to autodesk pops up.

Was wondering if there might be a port number that needs to be configured. Would need help in finding that exact port in Win 10. Found some articles on ports for Win 7 but not 10.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi @Anonymous

As @Mark.Lancaster mentioned, AutoCAD Architecture 2012 is not supported on the latest OS, i.e. Windows 10. You can try the solution in this link though: AutoCAD 2012, 2013, and 2014 crash on Windows 8 and 10 systems. Hope it helps.

Thank you all for the help. I am giving up. Will continue with the desktop and when it quits find another solution. Thanks!

You have a perpetual license and the activation is already on your machine.  It doesn't need any ports opened.

But the 2012 product line is not supported under Windows 10.  At any moment this can stop working.  Smiley Wink

Close out your Autodesk product and delete the following files:

  • C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet\adskflex_########_tsf.data
  • C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet\adskflex_########_tsf.data.backup

Restart your program and you will need to walk through the activation process again.  But you could run into a max activation message.

Hey Mark,

Thanks for that suggestion. Deleted the files as you suggested. Crashed. Deleted all files in that folder. started to work. Tried an existing drawing. Worked for about 2 minutes. Crashed. Thanks for your help. Will look into AutoCAD lite in the future. Paid dearly in 2011 for the revit/architecture suite. Guess I will need to go to subscription if I want to work away from the office. Thanks again for all your help!
