How to install Inventor Series 10 (very old) on a Windows 8 or 10 machine?

I've been using Inventor Series 10 (very old version) on my Windows 8 laptop for about 4 years now.  All of the sudden it pops up that it needs to be registered.  I have the serial number and activation code but it says they do not match.  Any ideas why this happened and how to get around it???

I tried to reinstall it and it said the operating system is incompatible.  I remember one of my software engineers had to jump through hoops to get it installed on this computer and I no longer work with him and he doesn't remember what he did.  I've searched and can't find an install procedure for this.  If it is possible I can install it on a Windows 10 computer but I'm assuming the same operating system error will come up.

Can any of you point me in the right direction to get this fixed?  Is there a way to edit the registry with the serial number and activation code or is there a procedure to install this old version on a new operating system?

Thanks for any suggestions whatsoever.

there is no fix for this

inventor 10 will never be compatible with windows 10

if didn’t work with windows 8 it probably will not work with windows 10

search this forum for workarounds if any

you can go through these: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?filter=location&q=installing%20inventor...

good luck

Autodesk only support current release and back 3 years (2019-2016) so no way will you be able to activate,

Also decade old software will never work and never will due to OS and architectural changes,

Sorry...

The no way you will be able to activate it isn't true. I have users on 2012 / 2013 / 2014 / 2015 who have a valid license and can still activate it.

If they have a license that is Valid for Inventor 10, and the right OS they can activate it.

I noted in the OP that THIS version IS running on Windows 8.  So, it certainly is possible.  The problem is that it spontaneously "unregistered" itself and won't accept my activation code anymore even though the program has been fully functional until today when the 5 day limit ran out.

If anyone has any ideas what happened or how to get the registration to work again please let me know.

Thanks.

Have you contacted Autodesk activation support?

No but considering it is a 12 year old version I doubt they are going to be interested in this.  I don't remember the email I used when I originally bought it so that would probably kill any hopes of support too.

I was hoping there might be a quick registry mod that would allow me to reset the activation code.  I have my serial number and activation code and the original discs.

You'd need to have it on the right OS

But there is AVA and Register Once for activation on older versions ... (if the license is still valid)

I've seen this before ... (and lately)

Always the newer OS's with older OS's that aren't supported.

This was happening to someone with 200X on Windows 10 .... same issue, it would cancel out after a week.

Might be an issue / conflict with a recent update.....
