Hi Fellow Community members!

crash-2016-10-28.png

I recently had an issue with AutoCAD giving Fatal Error messages while doing the most random tasks.  I could be using Orbit and it would crash or just creating a line in a simple 2D drawing and it would crash.  It varied all the time but when I read the dump file, it would always show the same thing: AcadDM13.hdi

Looking at google found nothing for this error code or for AcadDM13.hdi.  I was busy at work and this crash would happen at random so I ignored it and saved constantly and if I didn't Recover would do it's job well.

It wasn't until recently that I installed an update to Adobe Photoshop in the morning and Autocad would not let me in.  It would go through the License verification, open up, but I could not click on anything.  I also noticed that the Lotus Notes I had open was not working as well.  Very curious.

So, this was the fault of something other than AutoCAD.  I looked at the AVG antivirus and checked out the Reports and noticed that it was stuck on an update and the last time it did a scan was March 2016.  It was now November 2016.

So I called my IT dept and they uninstalled AVG and reinstalled it.  The install bar stalled while reinstalling.  So we halted installation, restarted the PC, then retried the install for AVG.  It luckily worked this time.  We then had to reinstall the Firewall portion of it as it did not go through.  Once that was reinstalled I was able to start AutoCAD 2017 but I had lost my network connections.  We went back into AVG and clicked on Firewall and noticed that it did not allow File and Printer Sharing.  Once activated, everything works fine.

I just wanted to share this with the community as sometimes, just sometimes, it's not AutoCAD's fault when things get stuck.  Be sure to check your antivirus as well and Windows updates first and then go from there.  I hope this helps everyone else that has had a similar situation as me.

Best,

Hello caddude and welcome to the Autodesk community!

It looks like you are seeing the following error while opening AutoCAD: FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading. This error typically occurs because of a program corruption or a corruption somewhere within the operating system. The following article(s) should help you resolve the problem:

Fatal Error while opening AutoCAD

Could be due to the amount of faces in the model. Try using the Subtract tool in a new file.

Hi all,

I'm guessing I wasn't clear enough that it didn't matter if it was a 2D or 3D model.  The screenshot that I took was just one of the many times that it happened in a variety or drawings.

The solution to my issue was that there was a stuck download for AVG Antivirus and it did not update itself for many, many months.  The fix was to unisntall AVG then reinstall it.  I just wanted to pass this information off to others as I can not add to the knowledge database and this was the only other outlet for passing info along.

So to reiterate, if anyone else has this kind of fatal error issue, please look to your antivirus or a windows update first to see if there are issues within that.  Typically this is what is causing not just AutoCAD but some other programs to not work correctly.

I hope this helps!
