Errors with a corrupt Addin or Plugin

Hello I&L members,

Just wanted this information out there for whoever may need it.

Issue

"(Addin/Plugin Location Name) failed to initialize."

"(Addin/Plugin Location Name) is missing."

"An unrecoverable error has occurred. The program will now be terminated. All of your data has been recently saved, so there is no need to create recovery files".

Solution

When installing addin/plugins you should be aware that they are version specific & may have certain requirements, so check the Read Me file before installing to verify, located along with the download in your Autodesk account "View Details" link.

  • When you are trying to install an Addin/Plugin
  1. Check to see if it is installed C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\(Product Name)\Addins\20??  OR  C:\Program Files\Autodesk\(Product Name)\Plugins
  2. Check the Plugin Manager by going to Windows > Settings/Preferences > Plug-in Manager from the main menu bar to verifying it loaded
  3. If it is not loading try to Reset the Product to Defaults & launch the product again
  4. If you have verified that it is compatible for the version you are trying to install, then try uninstalling it through the Control Panel, and reinstalling it.

  • When you are not sure which addin/plugin is corrupted:
  1. Go to C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\(Product Name)\Addins\20??  OR  C:\Program Files\Autodesk\(Product Name)\Plugins
  2. Create a new desktop folder
  3. Copy all the add-ins/plugin to the folder
  4. Delete the originals in the folder
  5. Relaunch, if it launches add each addin/plugin at a time to find the source of the problem testing it by launching to see what causes the crash.
  6. If you have verified that it is compatible for the version you are trying to install, then try uninstalling it through the Control Panel, and reinstalling it.
