Cannot obtain a license from the server

Neptune48

Enthusiast

I have tried for two days now.  On line chat twice, even waited THREE HOURS on the phone (while being drive slowly insane by that horrible "rock" music) and no one has been able to help.  They have given me online links which have solved NOTHING! I need a human being to walk me through this nightmare.  The user's laptop gets a message that it cannot find the server IP address.

I tried using the product license listed in the Manager, with a key given to me by the chat help, and that failed, too.

I obtained a license file for both my renewed subscription and the new one in a single file, and it apparently is being read by the server, but the client machine cannot find the server to obtain a license.  So far I have several thousand dollars worth of vaporware.

Adding to @DarrenP  reply..

It sounds like you a few different types of Autodesk software in your license file.   So is this person or laptop only one experiencing the issue?   If so is this person remote or a long distance from your license server?  Do they use VPN to log into your system?   Have you checked the firewall settings on this laptop?  Are they running wireless or on a docking station?

Here's what I have done on the user's laptop.

1. Launch AutoCAD 2020
2. "Let's Get Started" Screen appears
[cid:image006.jpg@01D5631D.9DA67170]

3. Click Multi-user. FlexNet License Finder appears.
[cid:image003.png@01D5631D.9B8EDC10]

4. Select Specify License Server System, and then click Next> button.
[cid:image004.png@01D5631D.9B8EDC10]

5. Enter the server name (not shown here) and click Next>
An alert box appeared, which I could not capture, saying it was trying to connect to the server and it would take about five seconds. After about a minute, this alert box appears:

[cid:image005.png@01D5631D.9B8EDC10]

Initially, I installed AutoCAD on this laptop with me logged in as the user (I am the account Admin). It worked fine, but when I had my user log in and launch we ran into trouble.

I have uninstalled AutoCAD and re-installed it twice while logged in by my user.

Did you reply via email?  IF so all your images were removed for security reasons.   Don't reply via email  Go back to the forums and reply there.

So is your license file updated for 2020?

IS your license manager at version 11.16.2.0?

Update:  Have you updated the 2020 licensing mechanism: https://synergiscadblog.com/2019/07/24/autodesk-licensing-mechanism/

I have been so frustrated and flummoxed that I have neglected to thank everyone for helping. I apologize, and...
Thank you all!

"It sounds like you [have] a few different types of Autodesk software in your license file."
No, only two contracts of AutoCAD; one renewal from a year ago, and one new seat.
So, is this person's laptop the only on experiencing the issue?
Yes. However, I had installed AutoCAD when logged in with my own credentials and it worked. When the user logged in with here credentials, it would not get a license.
I have since uninstalled the original, and reinstalled it twice under here credentials, but using my Admin credentials to gran the permission to install as a kind of override.
"...remote or long distance from your license server?"
No, the company server farm is two buildings over on this lot.
"...use VPN to log into your system?"
No.
"Have you checked the firewall settings on this laptop?"
No, and I am not sure I can, given our IT departments tight lock-down. I do know that this machine installed and ran AutoCAD under my credentials just last Friday.
"Are they running wireless or on a docking station?"
Docking station, hardwired.

No problem..  We understand frustrations...  😁

So when you logged in, the 2020 product line was able to get a license?   Or did you launch another version..

Okay, let's try this again, but with pictures.

I've been delayed in answering as work kept encroaching on my attempts to gather data for this.

Thanks much for responding, DarrenP

I obtained the license file and uploaded it to the server.  Here is the procedure I followed on the user's laptop:

  1. Launch AutoCAD 2020
  2. “Let’s Get Started” Screen appears
    Picture01.jpg
  3. Click Multi-user. FlexNet License Finder appears.
    Picture02.jpg
  4. Select Specify License Server System, and then click Next> button (the window is blank because I don't
think IT will like it if I identify the server name online.  I did type in the server name).
    Picture03.jpg
  5. Entered the server name and clicked Next>
An alert box appeared which I was unable to capture, saying it was looking for the server and would take
about five seconds.  About a minute later, a new alert box appeared:
    Picture04.jpg
Of course, I am the System Administrator and I haven't a clue.

Because we throwing numerous question at you...  Let's back up..

Did you say that when you're logged in, you can launch 2020 and it gets a license but when the user logs in, you see that message?

"So when you logged in, the 2020 product line was able to get a license?   Or did you launch another version.."

This is a brand-new contract, just a few days old.  We also renewed an existing single seat Network contract at the same time.

Last Friday I installed AutoCAD 2019 (I want to run the same version as the existing contract) using my credentials on the laptop.  It launched and ran.  Then I had the user log on with her credentials, and that's when this nightmare all started.

I uninstalled the original installation and re-installed it with the user being logged on, though I had to use my admin credentials to allow the setup.

I uninstalled it again, and this time when I re-installed, though I thought I had selected 2019, it loaded 2020.  Doesn't seem to matter, though, they both fail to get a license in the same old way.

Thanks,

Bruce

I should have added that I launched the LMTools utility and performed a status Enquiry.  Here is the result:

Picture05.jpg

I can still launch AutoCAD 2019 from my own desktop.  It was installed under the first contract.  We also have a user in Colorado, who is also able to work from her location under the original contract.

Thanks,

Bruce

Either I missing something...

I thought we were talking about a network license product but you last reply sounds like you are trying to activate by signing in with your Autodesk Account...  Network based product do not required Autodesk Account info.

So do you have products that are network based and single user subscription?

Not anymore.  It ran last Friday, but that was three installs and two uninstalls ago.

Just now it told me
"Network License Not Available
Common causes: all licenses are in use, the server is down, or the license has expired.
Contact your System Administrator or support."
Below that is says Error [-96.7.11001]

My user in Colorado said she would be working in AutoCAD after lunch, but that only takes one of two licenses.  There are only three people listed as users: the Colorado user, the Local (Arizona) user and myself. Neither the Arizona user nor I have it running.

Based on the other image it sounds like the license manager is down.  Have you check to see if you can start the license service (LTMTOOLS/Start/Stop/ReRead tab)

No, that's my job!

We are, as far as I understand.

So do you have products that are network based and single user subscription?

Since I probably have the terminology wrong, I'll have to give a wordy description

Here are screen shots from my Manager account:

The original, now renewed subscription...

Picture07.jpg

...and the new subscription...
Picture06.jpg

I understand I can have up to eight users per contract, and only one person can use the seat at any time.  At this time, I have assigned Colorado and me to the original, and Arizona and me to the new one.  There are no other users assigned.

Is this the information you need?

Thanks,

Bruce

Earlier today I was apparently able to stop and start the server.  I tried just now and got this...

I also called Colorado, and she had already logged off a while ago.

Thanks,

Let me add that I have no idea what the search path is to my license server.  No URL, nothing.  I know the server name, and that is all.

Thanks,

Bruce

New subscription of AutoCAD would only AutoCAD w/specialized toolset..  Meaning in your image a couple of posting I think you go them backwards...   😁

In your Autodesk Account generate a new license file https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgbrLsmplCA&t=79s and download that license file to this server

Then on that server, go to Windows services and locate that same service (name) and select to stop it.

In the LMTOOLS, go to the config service and type in a new service name and the rest of the fields will become blank.   Navigate to the located where the related LMGRD.exe is location.   Browse to your license file that you just generated and leave the path or the information for the log file.  Select the two options at the bottom (from left to right) and then select to save the services.  Go back to the Start/Stop/Reread tab and make sure  the new service that you just created is highlighted and select the service to start.   Does it work now?

Could be.  Sometimes it shows me one thing, sometimes another.  Here's my latest attempt at it...

Picture09.jpg

"In your Autodesk Account generate a new license file [YouTube link here] and download that license file to this server."

I created a new license file and saved it to my hard drive.  I do not know how to save a file to this server.  I cannot find the search path or ascertain the VD status.

"Then on that server, go to Windows services and locate that same service (name) and select to stop it."

I opened LMTOOLS and requested Stop Server, but it said it could not do it.

Picture11.jpg

I dare not go farther at this point.

Thanks,

Bruce

You are already on that server, can you copy the license file on your hard to shared location that the server hosting the license manager can see?

When that message appears that it can't stop the service, then you have to go to normal Window services and stop if there.    You can't use the license manager to stop it.

Are you a administrator of the servers or do you rely on someone else do to that work?

Update:  End of day for me so I'm not see your reply until tomorrow.
