Can I downgrade my student software to an older version?

Hi. I'm a student and just purchased a laptop so I can do my CAD work on campus and on the go, so I downloaded my second available free student software on my laptop and without thinking I downloaded the newest version of AutoCAD (2019) while my desktop PC only has the 2016 version on it. How do I uninstall the 2019 version and reinstall the older version on my laptop so my files are compatible between the 2 computers? Thanks!

HI @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

You should be able to download the older version from your account page.  I suggest however that you learn on current software and upgrade the desktop to 2019.  You are more desirable in a company if you know and have experience with the newest features.

Hi @Anonymous,

Again, simply go to your account page and download the current version. You are allowed to install your software on two different computers at the same time if they are not used concurrently.

You don't upgrade a free student license: you apply for the new one (like you did the older one) through the student portal, install it and run.

Hi, sorry, no the issue is not resolved. I’ve been going into my account
like I was told to downgrade/upgrade but I only see my current software. I
don’t see where it says “install” or “uninstall” or “upgrade” or anything.
Sorry. Not great with this. I also emailed Student Support but haven’t
heard back.

Basically I’m not using my 2019 at all right now on my laptop and sticking
with my desktop until I can figure this out.

I guess I need step - by - step guidance on his to “downgrade” my 2019 to
the 2016 (as I think per another thread someone or you told me I have to
request again for a new student version and go through that process just to
upgrade my 2016 which seems longer) Is rather downgrade my 2019 for now and
worry about upgrading them both later. I need my laptop to work soon.

HI @Anonymous,

I'm sorry you haven't been able to get this to work yet. Here is a post on how to get licensing for your applications.

As a suggestion, you can download a Trial of AutoCAD 2019 and use it for 30 days while you get this set up.

You can also use SaveAs to save down to 2013 file format so the drawings will work on both computers. In OPTIONS, you can also set this format to be the default.
