Hello All,

ACAD 2017 student version is downloaded.

Upon opening the program I get:

                                                      Problem loading acadres.dll resource file.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Tommy

Hello Emm,

Thanks for working with me.

I haved performed the following:

replaced all C++ programs following Microsoft instructions...

opening of ACAD 2017 had same "Problem loading
               acadres.dll resource file." message...

               uninstalled ACAD 2017...

toggled antivirus, Windows 10 Defender, Real-time protection,
               off...

               reinstalled ACAD 2017

opening ACAD 2017 results in the same "Problem
                        loading acadres.dll resource file." message.

Any other suggestions?

Sincere thanks and best regards,

Tommy

Hello Ms Emms,

Response, in order, to suggested use of 10 Tips:

     1. System restore: takes me to an automatic point of Nov 14 just prior to re & re of Windows C++ programs.  I have not done this yet.

     2. AutoCAD 2017 is not showing in Windows Control Panel, so it must be uninstalled, yes?

     3. In searching for AutoCAD program files I found none in:

Windows Settings > Windows Apps & Features nor in Control Panel > Programs & Features...

BTW I did see that i had some foreign language versions of sds Max installed,  can I remove them since I use English only?

     4. Windows 8 Uninstall: See attached screen shots to see some of 289 results for AutoCAD search on C Drive.

     5. I have tried reinstall already,  as i open after reinstall, I get the same error message 'Problem loading acadres.dll resource file.'

     6. Tip 6, MS Office N/A to Autodesk downloads.

     7. I will try IOBit if needed...

     8. Applicable to Windows Modern Apps only.

    9.  Powershell?  N/A in this case

    10. N/A in this case.

Re your very last post suggesting my using 'Submitting & Viewing Support Requests' link, you are my latest effort in following this avenue 'Autodesk Knowledge Network > Account Management > Tech Support > Installation, Activation & Licensing.

I have been working for a week or more trying to get this reinstall/download issue resolved and really need to get it done so that I can work on assignments at home.

Can we expedite the installation with a schedule a screen share?

Thanks,

Tommy

Hello @Anonymous, this issue could be related to antivirus applications or other scanning software where files and registry keys are scanned and removed.

The best way to approach this issue is to perform a clean uninstall as there could be other missing files or broken registry entries. Use the following workflow to ensure you removed everything cleanly:

  1. From Programs & Feature within Control Panel
  2. Sort the list by Publisher, then uninstall all applications who's publisher is Autodesk
  3. Once everything is uninstalled, Delete the following directories from your hard drive:
    • C:\Program Files\Autodesk
    • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared
    • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk
    • %appdata%\Autodesk
    • %localappdata%\Autodesk
  4. Click the Start Button, then type REGEDIT and hit enter to open the registry editor
  5. From the registry editor, navigate to and delete the following directories:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk

Once the above is completed, you can reinstall the software.

NOTE: If you need multiple versions installed, you need to install them in order from lowest version to highest version.

Thanks for your response.

I was contacted by Autodesk person Gus Santos.

We are between sessions in screenshare mode.

After a couple of hours working on this Friday, he is, I think, going to go
into the registry beginning Monday morning.

I will forward your suggestions to him.

Best regards,

Tommy
