I just installed AutoCAD 2011, and went through all the prompts, installing as admin as instructed.
By all indication, everything went as it should.
When I try to start the program, I get the product splash screen; then the gray desktop.
The gray desktop is visible for about a second, then closes, and nothing......
The program won't run.
Help..... and Thanks in advance

Start AutoCAD in diagnostic mode as per the link below:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=13404186&linkID=9240617
If AutoCAD runs normally, it could mean that other programs on your machine are interfering with the functioning of
AutoCAD.
If the program runs normally, it could mean that you may have a display card issue or a corrupt install.
Let me know the outcome of the diagnostic mode invocation of AutoCAD.
Thanks for the quick reply.
I've tried what you had suggested, but, the same thing happens.
The splash screen comes up, then I get a gray desktop area, then it just disappears.
Any other ideas?
I am also receiving this issue on all of my autodesk programs. Only Revit will load but says the license isnt working. When I go to license the software, i click on standalone license, click on Register to enter the license info and nothing will pop up. Randomly all of the suite will not work anymore, was working fine last week. No updates installed that I know of.
Ok, so I uninstalled it, and reinstalled and still the same thing.
quick splash screen, then empty desktop, then nothing.
Install the latest drivers for the graphics card from by choosing relevant options from the link below:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/hc?linkID=9240618&id=6711853&siteID=123112
I would also urge you to implement the technical solution mentioned in the link below:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?linkID=9240617&id=13109351&siteID=123112
If this does not help you may have to perform a Clean Install of AutoCAD 2011.
Hi,
It took almost all day for Tech support to get this problem resolved for me. I understand the initial message I send didn't get passed onto the correct department. Anywhy this is what they told me to do, hope this helps your problem.
" I understand that when you launch AutoCAD, you see the splash screen, some of the interface, and then the program closes without any error message.
One of the documents below can help you resolve this issue. It is not indicated if you are using a network license or a standalone license, so I am including both documents. Follow the instructions of the one that matches your licensing configuration:
AutoCAD splash screen starts up and then closes (Standalone)
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS15176093
AutoCAD splash screen starts up and then closes (Network)
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS14908069
end Quote.
Have a great day!
OK, so more information.
I am using a standalone license on a Windows 7 pro 64 bit version, with 4GB ram on a i7 quad core machine.
But, still, no starting, and getting the same response when I try to start the program.
Thanks to those that have tried to help, but, maybe it's not worth it.
It's amazing to me that I'm the only one with this issue, and it can't be resolved.
You can update the graphics card driver to see if it resolves the issue.
If you can attach the crash dump file (file with .dmp extension) which will located in the TEMP folder of your machine, it
could provide useful information pertaining to the crash.
I have exactly the same issue.
I running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit on a Dell Precision PC with Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33 GHz with 8GB Ram.
I've installed AutoCAD 2011 64-Bit with a standalone license.
I've updated my graphics drivers for my NVIDIA Quadro FX570, now running version 8.17.12.5957, having also tried 8.17.12.5912 and 8.17.11.9703 and 8.15.11.9038 and 8.17.12.5957.
I've also reinstalled Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, but already appear to have Microsoft .NET Framework 4 installed.
Nothing else has a problem, DWG TrueView 2011 loads fine, as does Devices and Printers.
I am running two monitors however, but have even tried running ACAD with the second off.
Should I try installing the 32 bit version of AutoCAD 2011?
Any other suggestions?
thanks
Andrew
I recently had to do a full reinatsll of my system.
AuitoCAD installed just fine as did teh rest of my software, and is working just fine now.
Who knows, what happened, but it's working now.....
Are you using one monitor or two?
My machine has just been installed a fresh. It's very strange how this one program won't work. It's also one of the most important.
I do hope AutoDESK can help.
I'm told by our IT guys that this may be an issue with Dell Precision machines with NVIDIA Quadro graphics cards. They're trying to find a solution for me, that they provided someone else recently.
If all else fails, it's either go back to AutoCAD 2009 or change my graphics card.
Sadly, I'm the only one in the office with a Dell Precision, everyone else generally has Dell Optiplex machines, and their AutoCAD 2011 all work fine.
I also had the same issue.
As per the link within this topic i deleted the following file:
Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\ADLM
Upon restart and launching the program it created a new file, however the issue still occurred. I ended up copying another users ADLM file from their desktop onto the problem machine and this, so far, appears to have rectified the issue.
If the issue re-occurrs i will post a reply in this topic, but he is hoping it has resolved the issue.
I am on a Win7 x64 system with the same problem. The suggested fix from the links above did not work, so I copied the files from another system as well. AutoCAD choked (gave a license error) on the first launch after that, so I open Revit Arch 2011 (which opened fine) then relaunched AutoCAD 2011 (x64) and it open just fine the second time.
None of the above worked for me. After many tries I installed it as "30-day Trial" and then after the installation and running for the first time I activated it. This seemed to make everything happy.
This happened to me(its an authentication issue) and I got it fixed this way:
go to c:\ProgramData\Flexnet
delete all of the files in there
restart autocad, it will go through the registration process again....fill in your code and you should be good to go.
So I am having this same problem, where the grey screen pops up for a few seconds and then autocad just shuts down.
I tried several of the hints on this discussion board, but to no luck. I did notice however that:
1. I don't have that cascade. file anywhere that I can find, so I'm not sure how to delete it
2. my ADLM is hidden deep within my autodesk folder, and it is a folder that has a file in it, should I just delete this whole folder?
3. I also did the misconfig and went to check the FLEXnet services, but the box was already checked, yet the status said stopped in the column to the right...
I have a windows7 64bit system
Help?!?! 😞
