3ds max on Windows8

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I have 3ds max 2013 edu version, but I cant get it to work on Windows 8, it hands right after clicking 'I agree' on the license window - i.e it disapepars and splash with 'initializing 3ds max' stays there forever,

is this a known issue, and is there a way to solve it ?

I have tried compatibility mode and run as admin already

What do you mean they arent supported?

From what I know official release date of Win8 was yesterday, so I hope you will finally support it at some point?

I understand, not supported on Windows 8. I'm trying to reinstall 3ds Max 2012 and I'm finding it will only install as 32bit. I might be missing something in installation. Any suggestions?

pawwilon,

Hello. Windows 8 was unavailable as a full product during the development cycle of our products, so it could not effectively be tested against this system. As a result, our existing products are unsupported in this environment. Windows 8 is brand new and the 2013 release was in the spring. Testing had to occur months before that point, and planning months before that.

Based on prior release history, I would expect Windows 8 to be an environment we support on future versions. The same thing happened when Windows 7 was released.

pawwilon,

Hello. Just following up. We have produced a list of programs that are expected to work on Windows 8. 3ds max is one of them:

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=19048377&linkID=9240617

Windows 8 operates in a similar but different fashion, as such, you may run into additional hurdles. Turn off Windows UAC in windows 8- this is different than in Win7.

http://www.forumswindows8.com/tutorials/disable-uac-windows-8-a-4070.htm

Turn off Antivirus and any competing programs.

Check your installed programs list, if you have a program called "Displaylinkcore" uninstall it, you can reinstall after. This driver has caused blocakage in the past on some versions.

Then try to install. If this does not work, look at the processes and programs that are running, shut the excess ones off, or boot into a diagnostic mode and try to install there.

Thank you for taking part in our community!

If you're on windows 8, did you enable net frameworks?

My problem was corrupt cab file.

I am having issues with 3DS Max not running as well. I have ran as admin, and in Windows 7 compatibility modes, I have uninstalled and deleted all the files and the re-installed multiple times. Every time I start it up, the program freezes and crashes my graphics processor. Here is an image of the error code I recieve for my graphics card. Can anyone help me with this? Windows 8 is the most frustrating thing to try to use Autodesk programs on.

You are correct, I recently updated my drivers in January through the Lenovo support website, to my dismay, nothing worked then. I just installed the Februaury drivers for my Nvidia K2000 GPU and now it runs. Hopefully this fixes my problems running Maya as well. Thanks you for pointing out the obvious. Sometimes that's exactly what is needed. It is seriously appreciated. 🙂

What about 2011? Will Autodesk 2011, especially 3DS Max, run on Windows 8?

3DS Max 2014 most definitely works of Windows 8. I don't remember EXACTLY what I had to do but it was definitely a .dll problem. I believe I deleteda bunch of the .dll files in the program files for Max and reinstalled the program to let it install the correct ones. Something about one of the old files hanging around and had to be deleted. Try: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-2013-2014-DWG-Format/HELP-can-t-start-Autocad-2014/td-p/389600...
