Using Autocad without internet connection

Anonymous
Not applicable

We use Autocad in an office which does NOT have an internet connection. Once a month the program says:

"Establish an internet connection to continue."

And it makes us very annoyed to go with the computer to a place with internet every month.

What we want to know, is there a way around this that we could:

1. get pre-approval for the entire period of use, or

2. that we never need an internet connection?

Hello avrohomd

It looks like you're seeing the "Desktop Subscription Licensing" error. This error sometimes occurs due to an Autodesk licensing hotfix, lack of proper connection like network flow is blocked by Proxy Server or an Autodesk Servers Issue. The following article(s) should help you resolve the problem:

Downloading Previous Versions of Autodesk Software Using the Virtual Agent (Please be sure to disable your firewall and anti-virus before downloading)

Hello @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting, it is correct that you will need an internet connection from time to time. An internet connection is required to activate & every 30days you should be connected to the internet at some point to verify your license & use the software.

Please review, Do I need to be connected to the Internet to use my subscription software?

Is the message coming up more than usual?

If so please review:

  1. Temporarily disable security settings like Antivirus, Firewall & UAC on your Windows operating system
  2. Adjust your proxy settings, also make sure you have an uninterrupted connection. You can try another Wifi network location.

Single user term based subscription requires an internet connection the first time you launch the application after installing it.  From there the following happens when you launch the product.

1.  If there's a live internet connection, it authorizes again and you are good.

2.  If there's not live internet connection, it puts you in a 30 day/off line counter.

When you launch again, it checks..

1.  Live internet connection, reset the 30 day counter.

2.  No internet connection, the counter ticks down.  With 7 to 10 days left, you will be prompted to log in.  If it ends up on the 31st day, the product will fail to launch until you connect to the internet and launch the product.

May I ask why you selected this type of license if you have no internet connection?   As indicated here: https://www.autodesk.com/licensing/options it clearly indicates the requirements.

Depending on your terms, when it expires, start a new subscription and request multi-user license type which will run off a license manager within your organization and doesn't need outside access.

I got locked out of AutoCAD 2020 after less than 8 hours in mid-flight.  Most flights don't have internet connections for passengers.

Intensely annoying and potentially very damaging and expensive.

Thankfully I still had AutoCAD2018 on my laptop.

Surely I should be able to use AutoCAD2020 while flying?

This has nothing to do with your internet connection.

You need to update the licensing mechanism for 2020 https://synergiscadblog.com/2019/07/24/autodesk-licensing-mechanism/
