Server Not Responding

Hello everyone,

I am sorry for bringing this up again.  I see that it has been discussed before, but none of the solutions seemed to work for me.

I purchased Simulation Mechanical and CFD in 2013.  Of course they offer network licenses only, so I have been running the software as well as the LMTOOLS Utility on the same machine since 2013.  It was a Windows 7 machine, but recently upgraded to a Windows 10 machine.  I know Windows 10 isn't supported, so I have tried to install everything on a Windows 7 machine I have.  It isn't working.

I obtained the license file from Autodesk and followed the online instructions on setting everything up.  According to the "Perform Status Enquiry" option, everything is running fine.  However, when I start SImulation on either machine (the Windows 10 machine, or the Windows 7 machine that is also running the license server), I get an error stating the server isn't responding (see attachment).

I have tried allowing all Autodesk products and the LMTOOLs Utility on both computer firewalls with no luck.  I've also completely disabled the firewalls with no luck.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous,

Could you try using the ipv6 patch for license manager (win7 has ipv6 by default).

Also please make sure you can ping the server name. If not please add an entry for hostname in hosts file.

Here is how to edit hosts file.

Thanks for the info!  It is now working on the Windows 7 machine!

I know that technically it isn't supported in WIndows 10, but should it be incompatible to the point it cannot find the license?  I ask because hopefully Autodesk will release an update that will make it compatible with Windows 10.  If there is another problem (like firewall, settings, etc.), I would like to try to solve it now.

Thanks!

Glad to hear the Windows 7 version is working now @Anonymous! Not supported technically does not mean that it is not compatible. It means that Autodesk is not currently releasing patches, updates, and so on. Have you tried following this guide for configuring your LMTOOLS Utility?

Its working now!

I did two things.  I am not sure which one corrected it, or if both were required.

1.  I was typing the computer name correctly, with the captial letters as they appeared in the LMTOOLS Utility.  However, Windows 10 had it listed with ALL caps in the network browser, so I changed the name to all caps.

2.  I disconnected my remote desktop connection between the two machines.

Not sure which did it, but its working now!

Thank you for your help!
