Purchasing Arnold Licenses?

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi there,

My Manager has been jumping through hoops trying to find where we can buy a perpetual license for Arnold. He's been in contact with Autodesk reps, Solid Angle reps, and local resellers who keep redirecting him to one another. After a couple weeks, nobody seems to know who really sells the licenses. Could I get some help as to where he should go? If it's just Autodesk or Solid Angle phone numbers, he's already been on the phone with multiple people from both with no clear answers, as well as had reps say he'll get a call back from someone who knows which hasn't happened. I was wondering if there's a department that just deals with selling of these licenses outside of the help desk call centers?

This isn't helping my case here as someone who wants to use Arnold at this company, so any help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Cody

Hello @Anonymous,

I have a link here to the  >Solid Angle website< , there is a subscription option. Have you tried this?

Maya 2017 & newer comes with Arnold & can only be used with Maya. If you are not using Maya you will have to purchase the renderer through Solid Angle as it is outlined here: Arnold for Maya renderer

Let us know what you discover from Solid Angle. Thank you for posting. Smiley Happy

Apologies, I failed to mention that he's looking for a perpetual license which does not exist on that page. There was an option for one before and he has talked to a solid angle rep about it. They said it does exist for a limited time and to talk to Autodesk about it. That's what's been causing all the confusion as nobody seems to know where to buy the perpetual licenses from. I'm starting to think they don't exist lol.

Anything that Autodesk offers is now term based license..  They (Autodesk) do not offer any perpetual license anymore unless there's something special about this given product.

That's what I thought as it doesn't make sense to take down an available option. Still strange he was told they're still available by the Solid Angle rep. It's going to be hard to convince him that they don't exist now, but I appreciate the help!

This is actually not the case for Arnold you can still buy perpetual licenses for Arnold until April 30, 2018

you must go through your reseller to buy the perpetual licenses

Thanks @DarrenP!

He was told this and directed to our local reseller. He called and was told that they do not sell these licenses. He called again hoping he would get a different answer from someone else, but the second person said they didn't know what Arnold was, but would have someone call us back. No call backs but perhaps we should pursue this reseller more with this information as it's been explained to us from Solid Angle, and now you.

Yea, I realized that Arnold was newly acquired by Autodesk as well. My manager did explain it to him. I think we just need to have them investigate more.

Hello @Anonymous,

Sorry about that received this information a little late, but Arnold from Solid Angle is seperate from Autodesk products. Try to Locate an Authorized Reseller on our site to see if they offer this.

Let us know how this turns out. Smiley Happy

Hello @Anonymous,

Currently, Autodesk does not sell Arnold & no formal information about licensing for Arnold & licensing type for purchase has been released. If a reseller works with Solid Angle they could potentially sell an Arnold perpetual license to you.

I have reached out to our Maya business department to find out where we are so far on this. I can reach back out if they get back to me.

Thank you for posting. Smiley Happy

@natasha.l - if I'm reading all this right, Arnold licenses are purchased through an Arnold reseller who may not be the same as the Autodesk reseller.  So when someone is told to go through their reseller, they should be *specifically* told to go through an Arnold reseller, not their Autodesk one.  Otherwise we're in a "Who's on first" loop.

Is this correct?

Hello @Anonymous,

They got back to me, where are you located so that they can recommend an Autodesk Reseller specifically for M&E products?

Thank you.

My manager successfully got through to an Autodesk rep who gave us confirmation for perpetual Arnold licenses being sold. They're going to find us a new reseller as the local one here (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) does not sell Arnold licenses. This is a smaller City in comparison to the larger Canadian cities such as Vancouver and Toronto, so we may have to go through one of those locations.

So we're just waiting to hear back, but I think we should be able to figure it out from here. Thanks! 😃
