Problems installing Revit 2024 update 1

Here we go again. Just as with Revit 2023. Installing update 1.0 fails. This time I have a brand new pc, so everything is still fresh. First I tried a silent install like Revit_2024_1_0.exe -q which finished remarkably quick. Because it didn't install. So I left out the -q, ran the installer again and after a while, the installer popped up a small window Insert the 'Formit Converter For Revit 2024' disk and click OK. So I browsed to the Revit deployment, found the required file at image\RVT_2024_en-US\x64\FormIt after which the installer informs me the file Formit360Converter.msi at that location is not a valid installation package for the product Formit Converter for Revit 2024. Try again.

Ok, at the start of the installation, I noticed the installer unpacks the update file. So maybe there's an update for the converter as well - lets try and find those unpacked files. They turn up under C:\Users\administrator\AppData\Local\Temp\Revit_2024_1_0\x64\FormIt\FormIt360Converter.msi

Same message, not a valid installation package. So I cancel installation of the Formit converter and the installation continues. The progress bar creeps up.... and creeps down. Error 1603 - which could mean anything. There's this link How do I fix this? which leads me to 404 error We can't seem to find that page. The 1603 error most likely means it could not install the Formit converter.

The installer doesn't clean up the unpacked files, so I try to run FormIt360Converter.msi on it's own. Same result - it pops up the 'browse for file' window and no matter which file I choose, it insists not a valid installation package. So I copied the folder with the unpacked files to another drive and tried again. Doesn't make a difference.

Sigh.

Edit: as a work-around, I unpacked the update file, modified setup.xml by removing the line about Formit360converter, ran Setup and the update installs fine.

Take a look at the Formit MSI log files from Update 1 and/or upload them again here.

And I also have to create a deployment for Revit 2024, so I'm just gaining some experience ...

The complete update package doesn't create log files for the individual msi installers. When I check install.log, at the end:

Why Formit has been uninstalled now doesn't make sense to me either.

If you install with ODIS, you can't just install something manually, because if the MSI package is not registered in the ODIS database, ODIS will not work properly.

That's why I'm not using ODIS for installation at the moment. Because if, as in your case, you have to distribute Revit to a thousand or more computers and have such problems, it is no longer manageable.

However, the individual MSI or ADIX packages work without any problems.

But these are only my personal experiences.

As a work-around with updates for previous versions, that was exactly what I did. Extract all .msi and .msp files from the update files and have them installed one by one. Works fine, but I wonder if the update exe file itself makes modifications on it's own. So to be safe, I rather use the original installer - if it works 🙂

I wonder about the Adix files - didn't know they where some kind of installation file as well. I can't find much info about it?

Today I saw update 1 for AutoCAD 2024 and was afraid this one would be troublesome also, but no - installs quick and without any issues....

here are the log files gathered, it went three days back.
I thought I had it licked by doing an uninstall, then reinstall
the Reinstall from deployment created from scratch in early June to deploy Revit 2023.1.2 went fine, no errors this was last thursday?
today I noticed the version was not 23.1.2, but 23.0.1.1
so went to install 23.1.2 update, no go, same formit360 msi error.
Did uninstall of 2023 and all adsk extensions related to 2023.
rebooted and installed from cloud install, got this "installation incomplete. some components did not install correctly, but basic functions are available etc

I have similar problem , I was working with 2024.2 and installed RIR (Rhino inside revit plugin) as result the Formit addin disappeared with sketch option in Site and massing also, this happened with Speckle before and other plugins, to get the add-ins back I have to fully uninstall revit and install it again!

I think it's your problem, unsitalling some adding also remove all the addens from the tall bar, strange behavior
