Is it necessary to keep previous versions of Revit (2015,2016) if you have 2017 installed?

Hello @Anonymous,

Revit is not backward compatible with files, so if you work with other versions of Revit you may want to keep other older versions installed. Otherwise, you can remove these older versions.

This article will explain other options available as well, make sure to look at links below:  Backwards compatibility of Revit with earlier releases of the software

Thank you so much for that quick reply. Just to be clear, if a user is working on a file in the 2016 release of the software.. they won't be able to work on that file in 2017 release of the software?

Hello @Anonymous,

This doesn't mean the file can not be opened. With every new release/version of the software the structure of the file format changes a little so it will be hard to determine what will change and what elements will be altered.

Thank you for posting and contributing. Smiley Happy
