MSI GT72S DomPro4K-059 with Desktop GTX 980 doesn't work with Maya 2016 UI

I am in a jam with a new laptop I bought for VR. It is a MSI GT72S DomPro4K-059. Maya 2016, using Service Pack 5 (And others) does not work well with it. I can't RMB to select objects or components and the spacebar works once to bring up the entire Maya menu then stops doing that. I cannot quit from the GUI as the menu selections don't light up. Alt-B only brings up black and gradient backgrounds after cycling through the greys a few times. Do you know what it would be? I am using the new GTX 980 Desktop equivalent card.

Warmly,

Dave Kaul

I can think of 3 things off the top of my head to check:

A) Make sure you have the latest NVIDIA driver's installed (or whatever was last stable for you).

B) Go to /Documents/maya/2016/ and delete your 'prefs' folder. This will reset your preferences throughout Maya. This alone has saved my rear a multitude of times when Maya starts acting up.

C) If the above fail, try uninstalling Maya by running the Autodesk Uninstall Tool, then restart your machine and attempt a new fresh installation. I have also had to do this several times over the years.

Let us know if any of these worked!

Hi MR,

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried them all but they didn't work
unfortunately. The UI works for a few clicks and then fails.

Sorry for not getting back to you. Have you been able to solve this issue yet?

If you haven't, the only other solution I can give you is to do a clean install of Windows, but that is not a fun task to do, especially if it was pre-installed and didn't come with a key. And it would remove NVIDIA's Optimus technology if it was installed.

Hi dave! we have the same issue! I bought msi gt80 sli and installed maya, the application works properly for just a second or three then after that everything is messed up! I tried msi recovery and do a fresh install but still the same, nothing happend. Some said that it is because of the game ready feature of the video card's driver, tried to install older version drivers but it says that it can't support the hardware. Im kinda disappointed right now but I'm trying to find solutions though! I don't know whats causing this but I'm guessing that it's the hardware or driver that causing the problem.

I did make a video of my problem, check if we have the same issue (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4uY3LMjIuA)

Hi, luckily someone found out the answer. Uninstalled the nahimic audio
driver /app and Maya works perfectly. I don't know how the guy figured that
out but it is the solution.

Hi Dave, I know it sounds odd, but, try disabling/removing the Nahimic
audio driver. Had the same problems until I did.
