Microsoft Defender and scanning the temp files slowing down ACADMECH

I have been having issues with my AutoCAD Mechanical 2023 lagging. My IT group has traced it to Microsoft Defender and scanning the temp files. It seems like it's creating temp files every few minutes. Is this because I have my AutoSAVE to such a short interval? Is there anything I can do help with this situation? 

It seems a bit excessive to me I had, maybe 6 or 7 drawings open today (and maybe opened and closed a few others), and between 8 am and 12:00 pm, I had close to 9000 temp files. I don't want to have to clear the thing every few hours, but it seems like if I don't, my AutoCAD just gets so slow.

Any thoughts?

Not sure why this was moved to installation and licensing; it's happening during the usage of AutoCAD; these are files created when using AutoCAD Mechanical.

AutoCAD creates a whole bunch of temporary stuff:

• Automatic Save File location
• Log file location
• Plot and publish log files
• Xref backup file location
• Temporary drawing file location
• Temporary external reference file location

We've placed them in a dedicated folder and have that folder excluded in Windows Defender. 

But that's not all - additional temp files will be created in you Windows User profile appdata\local\temp folder as well. I don't think it's wise to exclude that folder from scanning...

This is the folder where I'm having the issue (not that I can exclude anything from scanning anyway - big IT won't allow it).  At least this is what IT has told me to clear, and it seemed to resolve the issue. I'm just not sure why it's getting so full.

That folder is used by just about everything running in the user context, so not only AutoCAD, but also for any other program you have running. That's why it's not a good idea to exclude it from scanning. And deleting everything in that folder could also cause problems with other programs.

If Big IT won't allow exclusions, then Big IT is responsible for you not being 100% productive - good be enough for your manager to have a chat with Big IT 🙂
