Maya 2016 Ext 2 Help download is incorrect.

I had mentioned this within a previous post so perhaps it was not recognized or seen.  The current Help download link for the new Maya 2016 Ext 2 found on this page is incorrect.  If you click on the Maya 2016 Ext 2 links (English, Japanese or Chinese) your web page feeds the file for Maya 2016 Ext 1 and not the Ext 2 file.  If you click on the Maya 2016 Ext 1 links you are redirected to a dead page.  Cleary there are some typo's on that specific web page that the people that support your web page need to correct.

Thanks to those that fixed or exposed the link to the mental ray plugin for Ext 2.  It is now much more visible that what it was and I'm sure the users appreciate that.

In the meantime, if you past the incorrect link (the one that points to the Ext1 help file) into your browser and change the 1 to a 2, you can download the correct file. Also, you may want to answer the "was this article helpful" question at the bottom of that page. It will probably give you a field into which you can enter a reason.

This is helpful and works.... and I just gave you some kudo's.........but I'm not going to accept it as the solution.  The solution is AD fixes the webpage.

Thanks for the kudos...and I fully agree that my answer is not the solution.

An update on this.  The help file downloaded with the technique you mention is corrupt and will not decompress.  Here are the errors:

!   C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\MayaHelp2016_Ext2_enu.zip: CRC failed in movies\Alembic export.zip. The file is corrupt
!   C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\MayaHelp2016_Ext2_enu.zip: CRC failed in movies\Basics\basics_display_modes.mp4. The file is corrupt
!   C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\MayaHelp2016_Ext2_enu.zip: CRC failed in movies\Displacement_Tessellation.mp4. The file is corrupt
!   C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\MayaHelp2016_Ext2_enu.zip: CRC failed in movies\movies2\mash_workflow_part6_First_Frame.png. The file is corrupt
!   C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\MayaHelp2016_Ext2_enu.zip: CRC failed in movies\RenderSetupAdv_Part1_v2.mp4. The file is corrupt

I downloaded this twice on two different machines, one Windows 10, the other OSX.  Both failed.

So this issue is completely broken.  Hopefully someone from AD will read this post and fix both the corrupted files and the web page links.

Maybe that's why they didn't link to it.

Sorry to hear it's not working.

Well ...... I might be able to reason that but it begs the question as to why bother putting a link in the download page if the file is not ready. And as far as the bad files, come on. This is only a few files. Takes what, 5 minutes to collect the right files, 10 mins to compress while you are on lunch break and put the right file up? I like AD. I'm happy with the progress they are making on Maya but this is just a minor screwup they need to fix. Not the end of the world but seeing I'm an old school kind of old fart who actually does RTFM it would be nice to see it fixed and none of us can do that. I'll read online but I'm leaving for out of town tomorrow and won't have Internet access, thus having it on my local machine is very useful. I'll just wait but AD needs to fix it. We can't.

Hi rimcrazy,  and everyone else

Thank you for bringing this to our attention,  A few other customers have also reached out.  As a Technical Support Specialist, I don't have access to the web development and updates.  Yet as of this morning the group in-charge of those links and files has been informed, and this issue should be getting fixed very soon.  I will post back as soon as I get word internally that the links and files are 100% correct.  Again, thank you guys/gals for your patience as we fix this.  I hope you enjoy Maya 2016 Ext 2.

Cheers,

Ooops.  Sorry Housein but the problem is not fixed.  Please see my new post on the subject.  There are still two corrupt files in the zip download and the zip will not unzip on a Mac computer.  Winzip is letting me unzip it on my Windows workstation but it also notifies me that there is an issue.

Hi There,

Yeah I was surprised you posted as fixed, as the Web Team has not actually sent me the green light on it being fixed.  I will check up on them again.  Thanks on the input.  I'm on it!!

Cheers

Ok so It looks like it was fixed, yet 3 of the files in the Zip folder got corrupted.  These will be getting fixed soon.  Again sorry for the issues, we really appreciate the awesome patience from you guys.  BTW the Zip is 2.1 gigs, as it contains tons of helpfull videos and so forth.  for now you can get 99.9% of the Zip files contents extracting it on a Windows Machine.  Check back in a day or two, and this will be fixed.  On the Mac side, it seems it fails as it finds the corrupted files and cancels the whole extraction operation.  Again thanks to to "rimcrazy" for bringing this to my attention.. The Web team is fully informed about this.  Cheers.
