Managing seats in Autodesk account

I have been informed by support that for 1 seat I am allowed to install into 2 different computers but only 1 user can use the software at a time.My question is, does the available seats reflect in my AutoDesk manage account in real time? For example I have Navisworks Manage with 1 seat and I install it to 2 different computers, does the seat count in my Autodesk manage account display 0/1 available seats?

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the community, great to have you hear!

Excellent question! The 0/1 shown in your management portal represents what you have assigned in the user management section of your account. If you were to unassign the license, that number would go to 1/1, as it is not assigned. You can learn a bit more about user management here. You can install the license on multiple computers, so that the user can jump from computer to computer. If you want another user to access the license, you need to assign them the license, unless you have it set up as a network license. The network license will allow users on the network to check out the licenses from your server. Here is managing network licenses.

Let me know if you have any further questions about network licenses, as I am happy to help with the setup further. Can't wait to see what you guys create! Do you have any sneak peeks for us?

Hi @matthew.d

Thank you for this. You cleared up something for me that I have been trying to figure out for a while.

A few more clarifications if I may, how would I know if I used up all available installations/licenses in our contract? Is there also a way to know what serial number/product key the software is using in a specific workstation? I'm asking this since I have no full documentation of what was installed and where it is installed when I came in the company.

I hope you could clear this out for me. Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous,

Assuming you are asking in regards to your current setup. Within your Autodesk Account, under management > users, when you go to edit access of a user, the contract you are trying to assign will indicate how many seats you have of that particular license not assign. In the case of the screen shot below, 0 seats are available.

If you need the seat, you would in the case, have to remove it from another user by unchecking the assign button. You can install the program on multiple computers, running into available installations shouldn't be an issue, it is more a matter of license availability.

In each of the programs, if you navigate to the top right there should be a '?', which is the help area for the program. In each of the help sections, you can click on the about section to open up the license information of the program. The licenses are tied to the signed in user, which are those you have assigned. In the case below, we have what it looks like in Fusion 360 (which is an awesome program, check it out if you have a chance Smiley Happy):

It's not really necessary to do this in your case however, as these are subscription licenses and you can manage user access from with your Autodesk Account.

Hi @matthew.d

I appreciate the help but I just want to clear some things out. Here are my questions:

1) 1 seat equates to 1 license and 1 license equates to 1 user, right? Autodesk support told me that in every 1 seat I am allowed to install up to 2 different computers provided that either is using the software at a time. Is this correct? Does this also apply to any Autodesk software regardless if it is a subscription or a maintenance one?

2) Activation is done when you input the serial number and product key during the installation proper. Is this correct? Are there any steps to be done after these?

3) Is there a way to track what Autodesk software has been installed in a workstation? (Like requesting for a report directly from Autodesk which indicates the software and the computer name OR by looking up the serial number directly inside the Autodesk application)

4) How would I know if I have used up all my seats by installing the software? (Autodesk Manage seems to just display which users have been assigned with a product; in our case, the actual users using the software do not even have Autodesk accounts)

I hope you could help me with this. I really appreciate the help, Matt!

Yes, that is correct. Here is more about how to use maintenance plans. There is a lot of information there, let me know if you have any questions about it.

2) Activation is done when you input the serial number and product key during the installation proper. Is this correct? Are there any steps to be done after these?

Once you activate you should be good to go. The next step is enjoying your program and making something awesome! All of your licensing information is stored within your C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet\adskflex_########_tsf.data file.

3) Is there a way to track what Autodesk software has been installed in a workstation? (Like requesting for a report directly from Autodesk which indicates the software and the computer name OR by looking up the serial number directly inside the Autodesk application)

There is indication of which computers have installed the programs in your Autodesk Account. This will just indicate the computer name. If you are looking daily usage reports, this post has some great links to options for that.

4) How would I know if I have used up all my seats by installing the software? (Autodesk Manage seems to just display which users have been assigned with a product; in our case, the actual users using the software do not even have Autodesk accounts)

When you assign the user, an Autodesk Account is created for them under the email you provided. You may want to consider using the network license manager to set up a license server if you are going to have a lot of licenses. You can then create deployments of the software, manage the user updates, install the programs remotely on their computers, and create a license system, where users check out the licenses.

Absolutely, we are always happy to help.
