Inventor 2021 Installed, Unable To Launch

This morning I went to install Inventor 2021 from the desktop app. I got maybe 10% in and I got an error and a suggestion to do a browser download. I followed the browser link, downloaded and ran the exe, which had an error. I decided to try the desktop app installation again and this time it got most of the way through the install before saying there was an error. Before I could write the error number down (I think it was 1003, but I'm not sure) the error message went away and the "launch" button appeared in the app. I decided to try it, and Inventor's loading screen popped up for maybe five seconds, then disappeared. I tried it a couple more times, the same thing happened. Rebooted my machine, same thing. Deleted AdskLicinsgService.data, same thing. Navigated to the program location in the start menu, same thing. I tried to run Inventor 2021 Read-Only Mode, and the seemed to start correctly. Any ideas you guys have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Do you have Inventor 2020 on your machine?  If so does that launch ok?

What about your graphics card, have you updated to the latest?

Outside of the graphics card, to me it sounds like you have a corrupt installation   I would recommend that you perform a clean uninstall per these instructions.

NOTE: The information within the article is solely based on you performing a clean uninstall of all "core" Autodesk products on your machine.  In certain situations, you will most likely not be removing all of your Autodesk products to resolve a given issue.  If that's the case, you'll need to adjust those settings and locations within the article to make sure you are not impacting those other Autodesk products you plan on leaving on your machine.

Then stop using the desktop app and follow method #2 here:  Please review this article and the solution it provides.\

Thanks for your fast response.

I have 2020 on my machine which was open and working this morning. After reading your post I tried to start 2020 and it now has the same loading issue as 2021.

I'd like to avoid uninstalling all of my Autodesk products (they are numerous) except as a last resort so I will try the second method you suggested.

Thanks - Roy Conrad

Hi Roy,

The fact that 2021 ReadOnly can start up seems to indicate it is licensing related. Like Chris and Mark mentioned here, please update the licensing patch. Another possibility is that somehow My Home fails to start.

Here is how to disable My Home.

0) Close Inventor.

1) Go to File Explorer -> C:\Users\_your_login_\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Inventor 2021\.

2) Find UserApplicationOptions.xml. Make a copy of it.

3) Edit it in Notepad.

4) Add the following line right below <ApplicationOptions....>

<General ShowHomeBaseOnStartup="0"/>

5) Save the xml file.

6) Restart Inventor.

Does it work better now?

Many thanks!

Hey guys, thanks for all of your suggestions. Here's what's happened since my last post. I attempted the reconfigurations that were suggested, but I kept having the same issue where 2021 would not load. The obvious next step was a clean uninstall of all Autodesk software, so I began going through that process. I was able to get some of the programs to uninstall but some simply would not leave. I did some research about this problem and I ended up downloading an uninstallation tool from Microsoft. I ran the tool on a program (AutoCAD 2020 if I remember correctly) and attempted to uninstall it again to no avail. I figured at this point that i was in over my head so i decided to contact Autodesk's support team. The agent said that the problem was that I had tried to install 2021 on a W7 machine...I didn't know what this was a problem. W10 will not work for me since we have proprietary software that will only work on W7, but 2020 works great and I like it so I asked if she could help me get 2020 straightened out. She said that W7 is no longer supported so unfortunately she could not help. So after that I got ahold of IT and they swapped out a "new" P70 for me last night.  This morning I was going to install all of my 2020 software, so i downloaded the desktop app. A lot of the 2021 software has already been released and I could only see options to install 2021 for several programs, including Inventor, So I decided to an Ava download for 2020, which I've never done before. In the Ava process, there was a note that said it was preferable aces the software through my Autodesk account, so I went that route. Everything's going great, the program's installing correctly, then I get an error: "The cabinet file 'Materi~1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, and error leading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.' I tried hitting "retry" but nothing happened, so I hit cancel. I went back to Ava, did the complete Ava download, and the exact same thing happened with the same 'Materi~1.cab' corruption error. I'm sure what to do now guys.

An image of a failed installation is no use to us.. However we need to see your installation log file. That's crucial in determining the root cause of a failed installation. At this point we can only speculate what the issue is.. So post your installation log file if you are still having an issue. If you do end up posting your installation log file, make sure to review it first to ensure there's no personal information such as your serial # in it.  Personal information such as your serial # should never be shared here.

This is what I would suggest:

Reboot.

Install .net4.8

Reboot

Download the installer files locally from AVA using browser download

Stop the Autodesk Licensing service if it's running from Task Manager, (stop anything else related to licensing)

Delete everything from your %temp% folder

Reinstall

If you still see errors, review the install/licensing log files from %temp% or zip & attach here

BTW - Inventor 2021 will "work" on win7, it's just not "officially supported".

Hope this helps,
Chris

You're using the install now/web installer method..

There's a couple of ways to properly download and install your Autodesk product to your machine.  Please review this article and the solution it provides.

If the installation does fail using the preferred methods, please post your installation log file here so we can review it.

Posting info: Sometimes the installation log file contains the serial # that was assigned to you.  Open your log file using Windows Notepad and perform a search on "/SN".  Depending on the number of installation attempts, your serial # may be located throughout the log file.  If present, remove or "X" out your serial # prior to posting.

Good luck on your installation and report back on your progress.

Hey guys...mission accomplished! I went through Ava and downloaded the three individual parts (previously I had tried the option using a single download) as I was instructed in the guide that was supplied. Everything went perfectly. Thanks for your help everyone, I was dead in the water for a couple days there.
