Install another year Revit chokes on previous Adesk Genuine Service

I have had this now many times.... try to install another Revit year along side previous years fails.

Inspecting log files indicates MainEngineTrhead is returning 1605.

Autodesk Genuine Service looks to be the problem.  However uninstalling this fails with an odd AUTODESK dialog.

In these cases I had used Microsoft FixIt tool... to uninstall Autodesk Genuine Service. Once this is done, relaunching the installation runs to completion.

Let me know if you need any further info.

Hello @mdhutchinson

Thank you for posting. I understand that you would like to completely remove Autodesk Genuine Service on a computer that no longer has Autodesk products installed.

If this is correct, it may need more time the service is designed to uninstall automatically once it has detected that no Autodesk products are installed. It can take up to 2 weeks for the service to detect that no Autodesk software is installed on a device.

Autodesk Genuine Service FAQ

"The Autodesk Genuine Service is designed to remain in place as long as Autodesk products are detected on a device. Once Autodesk products are no longer detected, the service will be disabled automatically."

Natasha,

You must have misunderstood the details of my post and the image attached. It was only 5 sentences long. The image seems clear to me.

The first sentence reads: I have had this now many times.... try[ing] to install another Revit year alongside previous years fails.

The second to last sentence reads:  In these cases I had used Microsoft FixIt tool... to uninstall Autodesk Genuine Service. Once this is done, relaunching the installation runs to completion.

The intent of the post was not to ask for help on an issue.  It was intended to relay an issue with your installation code. I was hoping it would help to improve your products.

FYI: I had this issue again this morning (would you believe it happened at the very instant you accepted your post as solution) .

Sequence went like this:

  • Install Revit 2019
  • Install Revit 2020
  • Install Revit 2021:  Install fails.
  • Download Microsoft FixIt from here.
  • Run Microsfot FixIt and choose to correct an Uninstall Issue.
  • Select Autodesk Genuine Service and choose to uninstall it.
  • Confirm Autodesk Genuine Service has been uninstalled. (I have seen two entries - both need to be removed)
  • Relaunch Revit 2021 installation.
  • Confirm Revit 2021 installs without issue.

(this sounds a bit like I am upset... I didn't intend to be)

Thanks,

going to refrain from using bad language here - (although I don't anyways)... but I really wish this could get fixed.

I do not want Autodesk Genuine Service installed at all.  It is a downright pain and does nothing for me!

This continues to happen... start installing autodesk software for the first time.  Install Revit 2019, then Revit 2020, then Revit 2021... and 2021 fails!

Alway, always, always! Get this error.

Force it out with Microsoft FixIt.

Relaunch Revit 2021 install and it installs fine.
