Fatal Errors in ACAD 2020 Win64 as a result of Multiple Windows of ACAD opening

Hello ACAD Peers,

I have recently Downloaded a full license of ACAD2020 Win 64.  I am running it on a Lenovo Laptop with an Intel CORE i5 processor.  My Hard Drive has a 250GB capacity and is Solid State.  What happens frequently is while editing a drawing either in Paper or Model Space, multiple windows will open during copy/paste (clipboard) functions between two drawings.  I am used to being able to have two, sometimes three drawings open while performing these functions.  However, when the said two or three drawings are open, I have had four or five additional "Start" windows open in the background.  this will eventually lead to me going to Task Manager to shut down the unneeded windows and a Fatal Error then occurs.  This will also occur if I do not use Task Manager to close the additional windows and will then suspend the most recently used window, then go to a Fatal Error.

Another problem that I am experiencing is the inability to Save As without invoking an earlier version of ACAD.  I have been using ACAD since v.10.  Yes, v.10 and not 2010!  I understand that sometimes you have to save as in a previous version then go on about your business.  I am wondering if these are bugs that AutoDesk is aware of for ACAD 2020 or are these issues that are special to my system?  I also have access to a Dell Desktop.  Would it be prudent to install my license on this machine?  Any answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thank You in advance for your time.

Best Regards,

Tim Versellie

Did you know you posted in the AutoCAD Electrical forum? This sounds more like a general ACAD question, you will almost certainly get more views, and potential help, by posting on the General ACAD forum.

Sounds like you have major system issues going in with that laptop: perhaps you should take it to a repair shop where you can demonstrate your issues for them to help you resolve it. Copy/Paste does not open any windows in AutoCAD2020 (or v10 or any in between) on its own.

Or if your laptop keyboard one of those where F-keys do something else, and other key-combos do something unique?

I bet none of this happens on the Dell Desktop with 2020 installed on it.

I have had some suspicions myself that maybe something was going on
internally with my Laptop. Again, I haven't loaded it onto the Desktop
yet. Perhaps there are Graphics Card issues. I am pretty sure that there
is enough Ram, Processor Size/Speed and SSHD Space to run this Software.

Thank you for your help and suggestions.

Sounds like maybe you're opening multiple DWG files via highlighting and hitting Enter in a Windows Explorer window?  If this is the case, it could be an issue with Autodesk Desktop App.  Somehow the system is not seeing that you already have ACAD open and is opening another instance of the program.  So depending on the size of your drawings, you're running out of resources.

Try browsing to the drawings after ACAD is open, you should be able to open more drawings simultaneously that way.
