Fatal Error: unhandled........

Hi There,

I am getting a fatal error message when trying to open AutoCAD and then it crashes. I can't get on to it, I can't open anything on there as it doesn't even get to the point of trying to open a dwg.

I have been trying to get help from Autodesk but have so far been passed from pillar to post with no resolution. I don't want to do a complete delete and reinstall as firstly the link to download the program has expired and secondly I don't want to lose all my designs currently on there.

Has anyone had this happen and is there any hope as I ambeginning to lose the will to live trying to get it sorted!

Thanks!

@PIPAVFC Is this a new installation of AutoCAD?

Or a new PC?

or a new OS, like an upgrade without reinstalling all the software?

Did you restart your PC yet?

The exact year version and variant of AutoCAD is...?
Your OS is...?

And if I may ask, why would your DWG files disappear if you removed the program? One has nothing to do with the other, unless you store your files in some odd program folder that you should never ever do and you like to blindly delete folders without checking first.

Hi,

I'm on windows 11 and this is AutoCAD 2022.

I have been using it with no problems since installed about a year ago and all of a sudden it is giving the error message and not opening.

I have been trying to get back into it for at least a week now with no luck.

Thanks

Have you installed the 2022.1.5 Update yet? ABOUT command in your AutoCAD (if you can get it) will confirm what you have installed. If not, get it from your Autodesk Account Page here https://manage.autodesk.com/cep/#products-services/updates
Restart your PC afterwards please.

Have you seen this

Hi,

I have been advised to try an update but when I log in there are no updates available, but nobody can give me an answer as to why. I am unable to do anything on CAD as it crashes as soon as it opens.

I will have a look at the other link you have sent and see what I can do.

Thanks for the assist in this, much appreciated.

Are you on a legacy license?

or are you actively paying for a subscription right now but you opted to not go beyond v2022? If this latter, we can all see updates here (permissions granted by our accounts managers)

Could be a corrupt AutoCAD profile. Try renaming registry key hkcu\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R24.1 to hkcu\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R24.0.old and rename folder %appdata%\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2022 to old as well. Then run AutoCAD and it will create a new profile.

I don't have a subscription according to Autodesk, not sure why though! So no I don't see anything on the update page at all.

HI @PIPAVFC

Did you do a Windows update and the issue started?  I ask, as I've been seeing this with W11 and 2022

If so, can you try doing a reset to default

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-reset-AutoC...

From there, right-click on the AutoCAD icon and click Run as Admin.

Hi Mike,

Yes I did an update for windows and it coincided with the problem.

I cannot thank you enough, I have been trying to get this resolved for nearly two weeks now and have been passed from pillar to post.

I followed the steps you laid out and I am back in business, everything is up and running again!!!

You are a life saver!! Amazing!!
