Hello mc.stastko and welcome to the Autodesk community!

It looks like you are seeing the following error while opening AutoCAD: FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading. This error typically occurs because of a program corruption or a corruption somewhere within the operating system. The following article(s) should help you resolve the problem:

Fatal Error while opening AutoCAD

Welcome to the Autodesk User's Community..

Did this work before or never worked?

Is your graphics driver up-to-date?  Are you using a graphics card that will support AutoCAD 2017?

Here's what I would suggest.

Download and install per:

Clean out your personal temp (%temp%) folder.   You will not be able to delete all the files and folders but try to delete as many as possible.  Try to launch AutoCAD again, did it resolve the issue?

If the above didn't work I would recommend that you follow the steps in this article.

Hello @Anonymous,

Thanks for posting.

Can you confirm that this is a product issue? Try to launch AutoCAD 2017 without opening a file, just launch AutoCAD from the "All Programs" in your Windows Start by itself, also try to right-click "Run as Administrator".

If the issue continues, try the following:

  1. Update to the latest certified graphics drivers & Adjust Global Setting to run it
  2. Check the system requirements for the software & make sure you have the required OS updates
  3. Verify the Microsoft Products (Visual C++, Libraries, .NET) properly installed by checking the install log or Control Panel (uninstall/reinstall)
  4. Conduct a Clean Uninstall of the program use MSfixitTool to complete the uninstall
  5. Download all of the parts Autodesk Virtual Agent & Re-Install the product

Hello @Anonymous,

Please let us know if you have resolved this issue. Have you had any updates applied recently?

Locate the latest updates installed on your Windows 10, to see if there have been some more recent updates you can apply. You can also try to uninstall & reinstall the update.

Hi, I've had similar problem with Plant3D, when I tried to make ortho view of my 3D draw. Solution is a very simple - just turn off the Hardware

Worked for me too. Creating ortho views in P3d 2018 gave fatal errors, 100% repeatable.

Turning off hardware acceleration (right click on 'graphics performance' in bottom right hand side of screen) fixed it.

(ETA: Only issue is I have to turn hardware acceleration back on to work with point clouds...)
