Error accessing UPI repository in the 32-bits registry

Anonymous

Hi, I am trying to install Revit 2017. This is the first Auto desk product on this machine. I am getting the 'Error accessing UPI repository in the 32-bits registry' error. Error happens for every Auto desk product. I have tried all of the download methods, turning off U.A.C., firewall. I have tried altering the setup.ini file via the recommendations on these forums but with no luck. Any help is appreciated, it would help immensely.

I am running windows 8.1 64 bit,

  • AMD E1-6010 @1.36GHz (has radeon r2 in same chip).

This points to a couple of things..

1.  Your Anti-Virus software is blocking it.  Disable it, if possible.

2.  You don't have the proper rights to your machine to write to the Windows registry.

Is there a way to tell an antivirus is blocking. I have uninstalled and disabled both McAfee and kapersky, could they still pose a problem in that state? As for permissions it appears through the regedit permissions that admin full control is checked.

May I ask why you have 2 Anti-virus applications?  Having 2 of them can cause a lot of issues.  McAfee is also the cause of this message.  Smiley Wink

Yes sure. No doubt. Family members work computer so IT installed another app I think. McAfee was I assume the default app. I am having trouble uninstalling it fully. It still has a program files folder but has no unmanaged mode exe. Also all of the folders used in the uninstall tutorials are gone...

Hello @richard.rau

Welcome back.

You can reach out to McAfee, for suggestions on how to completely remove it. Please refer to this post on a similar issue, here.

What product & version did you install first? Can you let us know what you have installed & in what order?

Okay I've gone through with McAfee support to remove the program. I receive the same error code from the setup.exe.

I've not yet been able to install the program and this is the issue. I am only concerned with getting Revit 2017 installed, just that the problem is with all Autodesk products on my computer.

Hello @Anonymous,

Thank you for getting back to us.

Try looking at your Task Manager or Event Viewer to see what is running in the background when trying to launch something.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for the tips, still no success. I see no recurring issues in event viewer when i launch, just random events. Programs in the tskmgr seem to be normal, no antivirus running, just the autodesk component for a brief moment then the send dump component. How can I see where the setup.exe crashes? Another thread with the related error had it stated that it was crashing while checking for the gfx capability. How can i check that to see exactly what its hung up on?

Hello @Anonymous,

You can generate a log file, please go to the Windows Start Menu > Run box (shortcut key Winkey+R) and typing %TEMP% into the search box and clicking OK.

You can sort the files by date, you should be able to easily locate the Autodesk product installation .log file. It will be named according to your product.

Or you try to use AIDA tool it will pull logs for you helping to indicate the cause of the installation issue.

Let us know what you discover.

I can upload the files so you can view. Do I have to hide info in the files to prepare it for upload?
I have no idea how to read these to find an error.
Also I cannot install AIDA -  same problem as with other products. Setup.exe sends me to error report sent screen. and the dump file has the upi repository error.

No antivirus is running, the firewall is turned off, UAC is turned off.

On this page I see another user with the same error solved by bypassing gfx checks in the setup.ini. I tried this with no success.

Any ideas folks?

Hello @Anonymous,

Maybe your permissions changed since the last time you installed a product. Make sure you have the right Administrator permissions to install.

The software needs Administrator rights during installation & at first launch after installation.

Users must have Full Control permissions to read/write to user folders & registry keys on the system.

You can try to  Create a New User Account with Administrator permissions, prepare to download & install then install Revit 2017 on the new user profile.

That doesn't seem to be the problem, I have gone through all of the user controls and set to admin or full control. I am currently comparing the %TEMP% folder setup logs from REVIT 2017 which I had previously installed on another machine. On this newer machine the setup file in the %TEMP% folder seems to end rather early and abruptly.

This is where it ends, which shows nothing compared my other successful install on another machine. Nothing seen in event viewer.

When comparing the install windows to the other machine, it stops right before the install options page. I see the akamai netsession loading, downloads to 100% then that is where it stops. Again this is every program not just revit. And again to clarify I have tried the different download options.
