Editing AutoCAD serialnumber registry key?

Hi, 

We are using lansweeper inventory software it can successfully fetch the AutoCAD serial number. But for most of the client system serial number shows as xxx-xxxxxxxx not the original key.

I found in this article, where mentioned "the reason Serial Number in Registry showing 000-0000000 is because the 2017 version install as Trial first" I assume its due to installing autocad as a trailer version? (not sure please confirm). We have a practice we always install the software as trailer version later activate the software.

My question? 
If editing the registry key with the original serial number will cause any issues to the software or windows?
registry location:Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R23.0\ACAD-2001:409

Changing the serial # at the registry end is not going to solve anything (as far as I know)..  There are other encoded files installed on your system that the license/activation uses.  Proper activation has to go through the product.  Anyhow since its the 2017 version, perform a license reset per this article.

I will try reset but we don't have any licensing issues. I just wanted to monitor all my windows pc autocad serial number through Lansweeper inventory software. As most of the computer has registry value of 000-00000 I couldn't get the exact result on the lansweeper reports. 
So, as a testing in 1 computer I replaced the registry value from 000-00000 to the original serial number and I didn't had any issues, if it's go smoothly I am planning to manually replace the original serial numbers on all the invalid registry value computers.

Are-you sure that the serial number are really 000-0000000O in the registry ?

I have such a problem with an other inventory software which wrongly reports serial Numbers as 000-0000000O for  some Autodesk products in particular versions

Hi Christian,

We have mixed version of AutoCAD from 2016 to 2019 I have problem in all the versions. I manually check the registry for all the version most the computers have 000-000000.
