DWG Trueview 2023 wont run and only runs when logged on as administrator

We can install Trueview 2023 as admin on user accounts but then it will not run unless I run it as admin, it then takes 5 min to load but wont pick up any network drives.

If I log into the workstation using the admin account Trueview installs fine and loads within 5 seconds, and works fine. As soon as I logout and return to user account Trueview again wont run until I run it as admin, but then agin takes 5 minutes to initialize and load with no detection of network drives.

I have installed this on 2 workstations with the same results.

Whats going on Autodesk, and is there a fix?

This worked great, thank you.

I simply run reg editor in admin mode and changed as advised the product code

English version:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\DWG TrueView\R21\dwgviewr-6101:409\UserData

To fix :

English version:

Replace {28B89EEF-6128-0409-0100-CF3F3A09B77D} with {59D6ED58-7BB2-4F80-9632-D1DEA3E8E2BC}

This fix did not work for me. I can still only open DWG Trueview 2023 if I am an admin. The local user who is attempting to use DWG Trueview 2023 doesn't and can't have admin privileges.

I fixed this issue. You have to temporarily give local admin rights to the non-privileged domain user. Then, you have to install the application and launch it as an admin using that domain account. Then, you can remove the local admin rights from that domain account.

Unable to elevate the user's permissions to admin for this one task. How is it that TrueView 2022 works as expected but 2023 does not??

(we have Azure AD joined devices, installing the program is not an issue with an administrative account)

Thanks!

I have the same Problem!

Downloaded the latest DWG TrueView 2023 version today and it does not work.

There are no problems with DWG TrueView 2022.

Will Autodesk manage to provide a new version for DWG TrueView 2023 that works?

Same issue here, installs (supplied admin rights) now wont run as local user, only as an admin.

Running it on Windows 11 Pro 22H2

Without msi log files it is difficult to analyze.

This did it for all our PCs. Pretty simple and straight forward. Thanks for the share!

Yes, it will run without Admin password, once you're done with the steps indicated by @beaux_vines.

To clarify, steps are:

  1. Enable Administrator privilege on problem account.
  2. On the problem account:
    1. Install DWG Viewer.
    2. Launch DWG Viewer one time.
  3. Disable Administrator privilege on problem account.
  4. Launch DWG viewer on problem account normally from now on.

Hope that helps.

Maybe they should just fix the installer instead of making us jump through hoops. I am trying to install on a laptop in the field that was joined to a domain at our offices. Not gonna work.

With the number of clients that will be using the TrueView, this is not an option.
Why did this work in the past with previous versions?
Maybe the TrueView programming group should ask the AutoCAD programming group how to program this, because AutoCAD starts without problems with other users with the same permissions.

Same problem in my environment: Azure/Entra ID managed devices (~10k), end users have no admin rights.

Solution/workaround:

  1. browse to https://www.autodesk.com/products/dwg-trueview/overview
  2. click on the desired TrueView version to download it
--> a small file starts downloading:  "Create_Installer_... .exe" file (~15 MB).
  3. run this exe. You must be able to give an account with admin rights when asked.
  4. done! This way the TrueView software will also work for users without admin rights.

Where it went wrong before:

when you paste the full long URL to the setup file in the address bar of your browser, it will download another much bigger setup file: "DWGTrueView_..._dlm.sfx.exe" (~1 GB!)

You can install this without problems (if you can give an account with admin rights when asked), but after installation this software will only work when you run it as a user with admin rights!!

We have so many view clients worldwide that this is not an option either.
We use the same installation procedure worldwide for the installation of the clients and will certainly not change this functioning installation procedure because of inadequate Autodesk software. It's sad that Autodesk can't manage such a simple installation with a viewer, it works with AutoCAD too. I wonder why Autodesk always has to replace working installations with new non-functioning ones!
