Can not activate Maya 2018 Educational license

Hi, I am a faculty at a college in Massachusetts teaching 3d Animation course and I have downloaded and installed Maya 2018 Education version for this Semester.

I have selected Personal or individual use since I will be using this at home office to evaluate students' assignment each weekend.
I have Serial number starting 900-********
Product Key: 657J1
Also have Reqeust code : 32 characters and number in length
I chose enter serial number and it tried to activate "Connect now and activate! (Recommended)" option.
When I click "Next" button, it gives me "Processing Error" saying system encountered a problem registering or activating product.
I've tried to other options as well but nothing worked so far. I went to "http://www.autodesk.com/productlicensesupport_en" site and also "https://register.autodesk.com" site to request an activation code but both of them didn't work.

My guess is that it might be caused by my account since I used have a faculty license back in 2013?
Or Maya LT 2017 license I've used for my freelance work last year which already have expired and haven't used it since.

I am going uninstall Maya LT 2017 and see if that solve the issue?
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi @sung3d

Could you try the solution in this link: Processing error when trying to activate subscription license ? Let us know if it works.

Thank you lynn for your quick response and the suggestion.

I've tried the solution suggested in the link (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Processing-error-when-tr...) step by step.
But still getting the same "Processing Error" message when tried to activate the license.

Also I just uninstalled Maya 2017 LT version to avoid any possible conflict but no luck neither.

Noticed that there's a "License status [2.10.0]" on the Maya Product License Activation screen.
Wonder if that number code meaning anything?

There seems to be increase of educational license activation issues these past couple of days.  However we have no way of troubleshoot this since we are users and don't have access to your account or Autodesk servers.

I would reach out to the Autodesk Licensing and Activation team

Hello @sung3d

You can also try the offline method, you should have received an email from the educational community that includes an activation code.

Please try these steps:

  1. Disable your Internet connection and launch your software to proceed with the "offline activation".
  2. Click the Activate button.
  3. Enter your Serial Number and Product Key and click the Next button.
  4. Select "Request an activation code using an offline method" and click the Next button.
  5. Copy/paste the activation code, provided in the email
  6. Activate the software

If the steps above didn't help, in some instance a computer may be named with "unsupported" characters that are external to the ASCII table. Accordingly, our servers won't be able to activate the application.

  • Rename the computer with supported ASCII characters and reattempt to authorized the product. This specific error should not occur anymore. (How to change computer name)

Please “Accept As Solution” if a reply or replies have helped resolve the issue or answered your question, to help others in the community.

Issue Resolved:

I uninstalled Maya 2018 and have created new account for Education version with school email account.

Then re-install Maya 2018 per instruction and everything seems to work just fine so far.

Thank you all for your help and suggestion.

Hi @ALEX.CHEN.4EVR,

All Single User Licenses are Sign In based activation meaning serial numbers are a thing of the past.

Once verified you can request a Maya license from 2019 onwards since 2018 versions are out of support for educational users.
