After a large Windows Update over the weekend my AutoCAD and Vault would not work past "checking license"
Other Symptoms:
- Could not revert to restore point - Windows Explorer would crash
- Could not use windows update - error code 80072efe
- .Net Framework "Unhandled exception has occured" error with log-off/restart/shut down
- "Another Installation in Progress" for repairing .Net Framework
- Shutdown process takes hours
- Other various issues and computer lag
Troubleshooting:
- CCleaner - "Repairs" found issues but does not fix
- Stopping Windows Update Services via cmd - No Fix
- Deleting AutoCAD trusted storage date (in flexnet) - No Fix
- Blocking and Turning off Firewall - No Fix
- Safe Mode - No Fix
Fix:
After a lot of research and troubleshooting, I put 2 and 2 together and realized my main issue was with the Visual C++ Libraries and the .Net Framework. I wasn't able to do anything with them in the programs and features so I had to look elsewhere. I finally found this > http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/visual_c_runtime_installer.html, which is an all in one removal & installation tool.
Running this tool successfully was only achievable through safe mode. Run the program, restart the computer into normal mode, and voila! AutoCAD & Vault no longer hang at checking license and both work fully. All my other issues went away as well and the computer seems to work better than ever!
