AutoCAD 2025 Freeze after Startup screen

Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a strange issue with AutoCAD 2025 on my Windows 10 machine. After the initial startup screen disappears, the program freezes for approximately 2 minutes before running smoothly.

I've already taken the following steps to troubleshoot:

  • Updated System & Drivers: Ensured my Windows 10 is up-to-date and installed the latest drivers for my AMD Radeon RX graphics card.
  • Clean Install: Performed a clean installation of AutoCAD 2025.
  • Cleared Temp & Cache: Emptied the temporary files and cache folders.
  • Reinstalled .NET Framework: Reinstalled the .NET Framework.

Unfortunately, the issue persists. I've also tried AutoCAD 2023 and 2024, and they exhibit the same freezing behavior.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Make sure you've downloaded & installed 2025.1.1 update.

Next in AutoCAD try setting GFXDX12 to 0, then close & restart AutoCAD.

If no difference, enter GRAPHICSCONFIG command and select another option under 2d Display Settings.

Dear Paul Li,

Thanks for the fast replay.

I followed the steps as mentioned but unfortunately the problem still exist. Even freeze time became longer (more than 3 min).

I think I could overcome this issue by installing new windows system.

After AutoCAD 2025.1.1 finally opens do the following:

Enter at command prompt: GraphicsConfig

Do a screenshot and share the image here.

Also at command prompt enter: ABOUT

Do a screenshot of that as well and share the image here.

Your setup is still using Directx12. Enter command Gfxdx12 and set that to 0. Then close and restart AutoCAD. Enter GraphicsConfig command again do a screenshot and share that here .

DirectX 12 persists due to reverting to default. I've attached screenshots demonstrating alternative settings: Gfxdx12=0 and GraphicsConfig in basic mode.

So leaving Autocad setup as Directx11 is the same as Directx12?

Even it's better to leave it with DirectX12.

Unfortunately I didn't come up with any solution. I feel the problem caused by windows. I'm pretty sure installing fresh windows will solve this problem 100%.

I found this fixed my problem. It occurred when I upgraded windows 10 to windows 11.

Not sure if this applies to AutoCAD and Windows 10:

Thanks for mention this article. However, I tried this method on AutoCAD and Windows10, but still not solving the issue.

I'm using AutoCAD, and after 20 years of experience, I've never encountered a problem that persists like this one.

Have you tried creating a different Windows user profile with local administrator privileges then sign into Windows using that new account to launch your AutoCAD 2023, 2024 & 2025 to see if that makes a difference?
