Arnold & Maya 2017

I have the educational version of Maya 2017 in our labs and I see that there is a Arnold 2018 version which is free to Educational users on a network.

Is Arnold 2018  compatible with Maya 2018 or do you have to use it with Maya 2018.

Regards

David

Do you mean compatible with Maya 2017?

I would assume it would not be but not an expert in this area..

My suggestion..  Ask over in the Maya forum..  Not to many users here that support this forum are actual Maya users.

Hello @Anonymous,

Welcome. I can provide I information I have on this.

Maya 2017 & newer now uses Solid Angle's Arnold renderer.

Arnold for Maya is included with a default install of Maya via the mtoa.mll plug-in. This plug-in is auto-loaded, and Arnold is set as the preferred renderer in Maya.

You can also register to download the standalone renderer on the Solid Angle website below:

Windows

Arnold SDK

Linux

Arnold SDK

Mac OS X

Arnold SDK

Please let us know if you have any more questions. Smiley Happy

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: There actually is no Arnold 2018. That's just an Autodesk license naming convention (the Arnold license token is ARNOL2018, so in the Autodesk product list, it's listed as Arnold 2018).

Anyways, with an "Arnold 2018" license from Autodesk, you can use MtoA 2.0.1 or later in Maya 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.

MtoA 2.0.1 uses Arnold 5.0.1.1

Thanks for your replies.

I more or less found out what you said by contacting SolidAngle directly. I did have solidangle licence which pointed to 5053 I think. Now it points to 2080. Hope it works ok. I will have to get someone to test it as I don't have that knowledge.

Seemd to be Ok

Thanks for your thoughts.
