3ds max installer doesn't install main file...

Hello,

I have been trying to install 3ds max 2016 on Win10 for a while now. First, I thought that this is the problem, compatibility, but it is not. Couple of my friends confirm that they are currently using 3ds max 2016 on Win10 and they didn't have any problems.

When i start the installation, everything goes as it should, but then the installer goes on to install everything but 3ds max itself... I have also tried using the Virtual Agend to download the installer but it does the same thing. I would guess the uninstaller didn't uninstall all the files? But I am no expert, that's why I need any help possible. I was considering a roll back to Win7, but I do not think it's worth it just for 3ds max, neither I think that it is not possible to run 3ds max 2016 on Win10.

Thanks for any responses in advance! I've been trying everything for a few days now and it is getting really annoying.

Welcome to the community..

Use/run the Microsoft Fixit tool (link is my signature) and make sure there's no 3Ds Max information left over.  With Microsoft Fixit you need to run it for every application that needs to be uninstalled.

Then download and install per:

1. Access the Autodesk Virtual Agent (link is in my signature) again and follow the download links to your product.
2. Download all of the parts (some applications only have a single part to download) for your product first. Do not continue until all of the parts have fully downloaded.
3. Navigate to your download folder location and extract (double click) part _001_00X.sfx.exe (or the single file download).
4. In a few seconds the extraction will start and prompt you to extract to C:\Autodesk.
5. Once the extraction is finished, the installation will automatically start.
6. Follow the installation steps for your product

If you want the full recommended installation steps, click on the installation link in my signature.

Good luck on your installation.

No, sorry. Also might I add, I do not want to run the 2017 version. I know that it is compatible and I have tried it before, runs without problems. The reason I don't want to use it is because I require specifically 2016 for a project I am running at the moment.

Also, can I ask a quick question. Why are there 2 parts to 3ds max 2016 while they are basically the same thing and only one of them is required? Is that just an alternate?

Are you talking about Part 1 and Part 2 in the Autodesk Virtual Agent for 3Ds Max?

If yes...

Part 1 and 2 are in a compressed format to download the software installation files in a smaller format.  Both parts are requied for extraction and installation of the application.   They are not the same file.   Both are needed.  Once you double click on part 1 as indicated in my steps, it will extract the files that are compressed in part 1 and part 2.  From there the installation starts.

Ah, ok that's how it works, I though I would have to firstly use part 1 and after that finishes extracting and installing, use part 2. But instead the installer just requires both of those files to be downloaded.
