Download the software from the Autodesk Virtual Agent

Once there, use the Download Links option to navigate to the application you need to download.

I downloaded the files with the Virtual Agent and installed them. 
After installation it still gave me the notification that the installation failed.

Hi, I tried installing Max 2017. I downloaded it through the Virtual Agent. During installation, when it reaches populate data, the setup rolls back to the 3DS max installation again, then back to the material libraries. At a certain point the setup closes and my pc automatically restarts! In regards to the errors you're getting (Error 1603 during the installation of MentalRay) is a general error which could mean anything. That being said, can you log onto the machine as 'Administrator' instead of 'Xfiers' and try running the installation again?

Hi Darin, I logged with the Administrator profile like you said. My pc didn't restart automatically during the installation, however I am getting the same error. Ok, its failing on the same thing. Try browsing to the msi file for MentalRay and install just mentalray to see what it says...

Hi Darin, NOT installing the Mental Ray and Iray renderers during installation actually did the trick. Thank you very much! However, installing the Mentalray2017.msi manually does not work, I have no Iray or Mental Ray renderers available in 3DS Max. Apart from that, thank you very much for your help!

Hey i got the same error yesterday, the solution ive found was, uninstalling all microsoft C++ 2005 from the control panel, them after that
you start the software again and hit to install the program. ( I think there`s some kind of conflits sometimes, and i believe that later on updates you can install the C++ 2005 again.
