I tried to launch 3ds as another user , i upgraded my graphic card driver, tried to repair and reinstall 3ds max but i still have this problem.

After the initilizing screen close, i still can see LMU.exe running in my task manager.

I have a student licence for 3ds max.

Configuration:

Windows 7 x64

graphic card : R9 380 4g AMD

intel i7

I finally fixed the error by manually uninstall 3ds, re-download the set up, install 3ds max and restart my computer.

I will probably never know from where came the error.

Thanks.

Hello @Anonymous & @Anonymous,

Sorry for the installation issue. I would follow that steps below to see if this corrects the issue.

STEP 1  Forcing reactivation of the product

  • Close any running Autodesk programs.
  • Remove all files under C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\ADUT.
  • Remove all files under C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ADUT.
  • Go to C:\ProgramData\FLEXnet and delete all files that start with adskflex.

STEP 2   Reset the license information

  • Using Windows Explorer, browse to the following folder:
    C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\<Product_Key>_2017.0.0.F

If the folder does not exist, create it.

LGS_data.png

Note: The <Product_Key> must match the product that is giving the error. For example, if you get the error with 3ds Max 2017 you need to use product key 128I1. This is true even if you installed from a suite.

Delete the LGS.data file, if it exists.

  • Using Notepad (or preferred text editor) create a new text file called LGS.data

Add the following text to the text file:
_STANDALONE (or _NETWORK if the product uses a network license). The text must be all capital letters.

LGS_data2.png

Save the file to the following folder:
C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\<Product_Key>_2017.0.0.F

Launch 3ds Max 2017 - you will need to reactivate it.

I hope this answered your question or resolved the issue, if so please click Kudos or the "thumbs-up!" Did my response help resolve the issue? Please "Accept As Solution" to help others in the community.

Hello there. I tried this all which you have explained but still I am facing the same problem. Whenever I double click the icon on desktop to run 3dsmax it takes an extra ordinary long pause on the screen of "Starting 3ds max" and then a window pops out that please submit a report because unexpectedly program is unable to run. In background the main valid "home" window of 3ds max opens for a second and then vanishes like it's crashed again. I submitted the report twice having problem explained in it but didn't get any response yet.

Looking forward.

Practice some care with Natasha’s recommendation…

I’m following her guidelines here in trying to get 3dsMax 2018 to successfully open (I'm a maintenance plan member with 2013, 2016 and 2017 still installed). Upon installation last night, 2018 crashes just as the program windows seems to successfully build upon startup. I get the error window reading: “An error has occurred and the application will now close. Do you want to attempt to save a copy of the current scene?”

I don’t know if it was removing the ADUT files or the adskflex files or editing a new .data file but the changes listed by Natasha failed to clear up the 2018 startup problem while simultaneously knocking out my registration for 2017. Had to go through the re-activation process with automated Autodesk which at first was telling me I was exceeding my allowed installation counts.

Still searching for a solution to starting 2018...

Trying changing the graphic mode. I changed mine to Nitrous Direct3D 9, and it started normally.

My 2018 install problems are evolving.

I'm installing on my home machine and work machine.

The work machine install went without hitch and Max 2018 started up without any issue yesterday.

I then received an email from Marianne (3ds Max Render QA Analyst) at Autodesk.  Apparently those crash reports that go to Autodesk are reviewed by somebody up at headquarters.

She told me about an Arnold update that was available for Max 2018.  I went over to the Solid Angle website and downloaded the update (MAXtoA-1.0.812.2018).  It installed without issue.  So the work machine is running just fine, it seems.

Now back to the problem machine.  I performed the same update to my home machine last night and Max seemed to get past the earlier crash spot but now generated a bunch of separate error windows all based around Arnold (ArnoldVolumeObject.dlo failed to initialize, MaxtoA.dlr failed to initialize, ArnoldShaderLoader.gup failed to initialize).  But after clicking through those errors, Max 2018 DID start up successfully.  I was running in legacy OpenGL mode before switching to Nitrous Direct3D 11.0).

So it seems...my problems were/are based around Arnold.

This won't stop me from proceeding with 2018.  Happy to have 2018 up and running.  Happy to have received help from Autodesk.  And I'll be watching for further Arnold refinement as it occurs.

@natasha.l Hi there, tried all this, and this resulted in me getting the 'Let's Get Started' window, but on selecting the 'Enter a Serial Number' option the window just disappeared again. Then a moment later the 3DS Max initializing window disappeared too. Task Manager shows the Autodesk Component to still be running.

I'm using a free Educational copy of the software 3DS Max 2017 and running it on a PC running Windows 8.1.

Prior to this issue 3DS Max has always worked fine on my PC, but on attempting to run it this evening have run into this problem inexplicably.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Have just wiped the slate clean and done a full re-install. Seems to be working now. We'll see how it goes I guess.

It's work for me - Win10 Fall CreatorIt's work for me - Win10 Fall Creator

I solved my problem with this Solution.
Thanks for help.
(using natashal84 method)
Note: if you have tried delete R14  folder and replace it with the new one. You will get script error notification. To solve that you need to take back your old R14 folder. Try it !

You try this:

Go to Start/All programs/Autodesk/Autodesk 3ds max 2018/Change Graphics Mode. Then you wait awhile, Display driver Selection box appears. You just to switch Legacy OpenGL (if it doesn't work try the others). I tried and it did initial sucessfully. Hope it is helpful
