Parking Lot Layout

Parking Lot Layout

Please incorporate the incredible parking lot layout tools from Vehicle Tracking into InfraWorks. That would make the product even more useful to side designers. Yes, we might not need "that much detail" but the tool works so fast in AutoCAD that the level of detail can be achieved quickly if it's properly integrated.

Thanks for bringing this up. We are working on bringing the AVT like workflows along with parametric design components to the parking lot layout that enables you to make optimal designs.

In order to get more clarity around this as we are considering, we would want to clarify a few and one of our colleagues will moderate the discussion.

Boggles my mind as to why we still dont have a parking lot tool in IW for as long as the software has been public...

I can quickly generate parking layout with many different options based on the bay angles and orientation. This new feature is still in the Rolling Sandbox version. The only critical thing missing now is lack of accessible (ADA) parking with the percentage input and specific requirements (space width for van, car, and access aisle).

3D vehicle paths would be really cool. It would be a great way to demonstrate the space needed fo a certain size vehicle.

This idea applies to all civil engineering tools adesk has made.

Stop making things application specific.

You make a "parking lot engine" and then adapters for civil3d, infraworks, navis, and anything you want.

"Then which application's format do we store the data (dwg, sqlite, nwc...)?"

None of those. You create a format that is application agnostic, and therefore external to all apps.

This is not new, except for the idea of sharing between applications.

Personally, I want that external database to be very simple, like one file per object, so I can manage in explorer.

We did that at H&A, and it kills about 5 birds with one stone.

Autodesk should realize by now they don't have the resources to do it (right) any other way.

If you talk about sharing data, it cannot be duplicate sets exported to some format that works for the other app.

All this application specific ability causes what should be one effort, into multiple efforts - one for c3d, one for IW...

Now maybe that kind of change does not work business wise. That is simply a matter of gaining the trust of those with resources.

That has not been done so this is now a people problem, not a technical issue.

We do have this in the Sandbox preview feature and plan to add it to the product with few enhancements soon. Please let us know if the one in the sandbox solves this need and any enhancements needed while we are working on integrating this to release the version of the product.
