Improvement Editing feature classes in extend schema editor

Make it easier to change the rename the categories and feature classes in the extend schema editor. If you use ArcGIS Online feature classes for example InfraWorks creates always a name with "user" and an internal demonination and you couldn't change it.

Hi spywo,

it's InfraWorks 20.0.

I think there is a internal name of a feature class (ArcGIS for exmple) but there is also the visible Name of the feature class. I would like to Change this Name,a lso afterwards.

Furthermore when Publishing InfraWorks / ArcGIS Projects to BIM 360 there are always the Long internal names of the ArcGIS feature classes.

Hi Eric,

Please check if the file 'im.schema.json' exists under the model 'unver' folder. For example, 'C:\TEMP\InfraWorks\ArcGIS.files\unver\im.schema.json'

This file contains the extended schema of the ArcGIS layers. InfraWorks uses the display name when showing the ArcGIS data source(s) on the Model Explorer window.

Hi Oliver,

thank you.

Yes it is possible to change all this stuff - the name, the category and the display with notepad.  But I'd like to it directley in the extended schema editor. And I think it would be also easier for end-users.

And I also like to have the possibility to delete empty feature classes or to turn them off in the Model Explorer, not only to switch of the objects. So it would be possible to use different displays of the feature classes in different proposals. Otherwise the overview gets lost in the Model Explorer.

Attached you find an example after publishing a project to BIM 360. BIM 360 uses always the internal names of the feature classes and not the display names.

What happens after publishing your model? How is the display of the festure class "Oliver test" in BIM 360?

So, I think there are some things to discuss and to improve, because the extended schema editor is a very useful tool.

Hi Eric,

Normally speaking, the `im.schema.json` file is fulfilled and updated when importing a ArcGIS feature layer. You don't need to update the display name manually. The file is synced, hence all the user who syncs the same model will have the same copy.

Regarding the BIM 360, we have to check the logic of that. Theoretically, it should use the display name as well rather than the raw db schema name.

Do you have the contact of the customer support? You can provide the requirement(s) and/or issue(s) to him/her.

Hi Oliver,

yes, of course I have contact to your customer support.

I just have some ideas of improvements 😉

As I told you I'd like to have generally the possibility organizing the feature classes in the model explorer (extended schema editor) in an easier way (renaming, grouping, deleting, choose other category afterwards etc.).

When using the extended schema editor and ArcGIS Online you have more feature classes than before and that's why a good organizing of this feature classes is useful.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your suggestions!

I'm including @ramesh_sridharan who is the product manager of the InfraWorks. We will review it and to see if it is in our backlog.

@Anonymous , thanks for the details. We do have some of this in backlog but would like to run it by you to make sure we are on same page. Would it be possible to take this discussion offline via email (ramesh.sridharan@autodesk.com)?
