General, Status Bar, Prompt

There’s no status, no command line, no pop-up that I have found that could be considered a “prompt”. It’s something that I feel is missing in the software currently. Adding these prompts to the status bar to communicate to the user what the software is needing from the user. Having something like this at the bottom of the screen that’s transparent similar to the coordinates would be very informational to the user, especially new ones trying to learn the software. It could even be hidden except for prompts such as:

Pick points around the area you want analyzed. Double click the last point to end the selection.

That'll never happen.  I was told early on they are moving to a Gamer Style interface and the command line is gone completly.  They see that as old school. You'll get pop up notifications and maybe something at the bottom of the canvas if there's an issue or if you need to select something specific.

That's my point. Even an in canvas notification of what I'm supposed to do would be helpful, especially if I click the button several times waiting for something to magically happen and the software is just sitting there patiently waiting for me to pick some points so it can begin calculating an area, volume, or whatever.

I like the fast forward approach, more like an app on a tablet. Easy, fast, straight forward. I guess depends on what you are used to, or from which other tools one comes.

Tom - are there specific commands that, in your opinion, need prompts and lack them? I know that many of the drainage commands have prompts, which are located in the lower middle of the application window. Many other commands don't have them, and I'm wondering where you would've found them helpful. 

As for status or prompts, we can add them to the interface and. The more feedback we get suggesting they're necessary, the more likely is it we'll make it a priority.

The last few releases of IW went through many UI updates as well as interactive prompts. If there are more required from a user perspective, we can track those separately.
