Sometimes moving forward means polishing what you already have, instead of just adding new content. I'm currently just on a Trial of Infraworks 360, but have already used it for 4 projects. I know I still haven't used all the features, yet I find that I get hung up on trying to do work arounds for the current content that seem to be problematic. These simple issues slow down my workflow, and at a stage of trying to convince upper management to invest in this program, these hiccups are stumbling blocks. So, my "Ideas" in a nutshell are to polish what you already have, because it truly needs it.
Issues I've run across:
1) Intersections - There is a great lacking of control here, being locked in to what seems to be arbitrary parameters. Roadways are so varied, being
locked to a limited range for how far back a turn lane can go is frustrating. Also include better control of a Transition range.
- Allow Freedom to designate Lane Arrows and Direction... the "Smart Intersection" doesn't always get it right. Allow a Creation tool
for Road markings!
- Roadway striping doesn't always get cut out at a union of roads, nor do items of decoration from the Thru-way road that are already
established.
- Not every connection of two roadways should be treated like an intersection, like a Driveway for instance. We need more freedom,
more control of the parameters and environment.
- Desperately need more freedom of roadway markings: Bike Lanes should End, not get skewed into a connecting road; Center Divide
Lanes should be able to "Close" and not just abruptly get cut off at intersections. It should look like read world markings.
2) Median Options - Median center Lane Markings need to be available, such as Solid-Dash double stripe markings, Turn lane markings in center divide
medians, etc.
3) 3D Models/ Decorations - I'm amazed that there is no Tilt control of decorations in this 3D environment! Vehicles on a grade would be half
submerged into the road or half floating in the air, because there are no tilt controls.
4) Water way Culverts - Great, you have enclosed culverts, what about open ones? Concrete Ditch? How about having control of a simulated water
level? Not all water features have to be "on Grade."
5) Bridge Modeler - I've posted the problems here before, but it's very much worth repeating. There is so much wrong with the Bridge modeler with
wrong design parameters and a great lack of options. Sure, I can fake in stuff or import a model, but if this program is to become
what I think you want it to be, a lot of help is needed here.
6) On-Ramps and Off-Ramps - I realize there's a glitch here, but not only does this need to be fixed, but some attention to options about the On-
ramp/off-ramp, similar to that of intersections, given more freedoms of those parameters would be excellent! Transition
range control for lanes!
Sorry for the rant... The Program does look amazing! It has so much potential and the little things such as above (maybe not all little), corrupt the worflow of how incredible this program can be!
P.S. If the Moderator believes all this is in the wrong spot... help me out and please forward this to the right location or to the right people. Thanks!
