Coordinate System Support for 2D Overlays

I would love the ability to create 2D AutoCAD linework and geometry for layout purposes in a coordinate zone assigned Civil 3D drawing, then be able to connect and configure that data in Infraworks only by assigning the correct coordinate zone.  Currently the configuration of 2D Overlays requires quite a bit of trial and error with coordinates, scaling, sometimes rotation and coordinate zones to get that information into the correct location that can be really time consuming and frustrating.

Might I suggest an option to switch an aerial to an overlay and back. For example, let's say you are creating an existing condition proposal and you are drawing in the road network using the component road tool. Once a roadway is drawn over top of an aerial, especially if you use a library preset from the component palette, it is difficult to adjust the components to the aerial if you cannot see it. If, however, you were able to switch an aerial to overlay mode, you could see over the component road, make your adjustments for accuracy, then switch back to aerial mode. 

I suppose this might be a separate Idea request, but it aligns well with this Idea. Perhaps if it were part of a realignment of the aerial/overlay tool.

Checking with the team for the technical considerations that precluded from supporting this request. Also any recent enhancements to DWG and upcoming corridor workflow handles this indirectly.

@ramesh_sridharan Why is this still an issue 2 years later? IW should be able to handle 2D cad w/ coordinates no? yet I am having to https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/infraworks/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/2D-... 

Please update on the status of this situation and if there will be a resolution in the future.

I can't believe this isn't a feature yet.  Imagine having to do this relocation / rescaling process with Xrefs in AutoCAD.  It is an absolute joke.

An almost 4-year review process! It seems like all development on IW has stalled. They barely had a presence at AU23. Same with Navisworks.
