Allow removal of all cloud models from startup

I am convinced the cloud models are hampering the startup of Infraworks for me.

At first I thought it might be an issue with licensing, as I can only get IW to get past the startup logo if using phone tethered internet, not company internet.

But then my civil3d starts fine.

Once in a while, IW does open ok after about a minute on company internet. Then it opens fast after that no matter what I do.

The one thing I cannot clean out is the default sample cloud model that is forced on us.

Just for troubleshooting reasons alone, we need the ability to delete it from our group.

I don't mean actually deleting the model from the cloud, just unsharing it so all models are local.

This idea should apply to all products, Autodesk, not just IW.

The new Homepage shipping with 2021.1 was designed to make no blocking API requests on startup. On the Recent page, sample models and model builder models are fetched asynchronously, and BIM360 is only used on the BIM360 tab.

That is not to say that Infrawork's startup time couldn't be improved! We also do know that a slow network slows down startup time, but with the new homepage I'm confident it's not the models anymore.

@JamesMaeding Can you check with the latest homepage updates? If the issue still persists, we will address it separately.

@ramesh_sridharan

How do I get 2021.1?

I have build 21.0.26.0

This version lingo is something that has been a problem for a long time now.

Normally I go to account page to get latest of anything, I also run desktop app to see what is available.

My desktop app says 2020 is available. Great, I already have at least one 2021 version going so that is screwed up.

Account page down load seems to be the old 2021 version.

May I recommend you always refer to versions as both generic "2021.1" and the build?

I would say we deserve that since you are versioning the models.

Hopefully the corporate people are not pushing you to not get specific, as that would directly hurt your cause and be disrespectful to your teams efforts.

thanks,

@JamesMaeding my bad, 2021.1 is being released in few weeks, I probably should have waited till then to post that message. I will let you know as soon as it is available for you to download.

In the meantime, if you are in the sandbox, you can check this feature out in the sandbox version.

Thanks,

@ramesh_sridharan

but you do see that if you say the build, you clear all communication issues?

Please try to do that if you would. No problem on waiting, thx for clarifying!

@JamesMaeding the reference in desktop app as well as manage.autodesk.com should be Major.minor version.

There might be some hotfix, that can show updated but the download location should always be consistent.

I am checking my desktop app which shows IW 2021 while my manage.autodesk.com gives access to 2021 and older versions if needed.

If your "Application Options" show 21.0.XX.YY, that means you are in 21.0.

Let me check internally why your desktop app shows older version.

Oh, don't bother on the desktop app thing, unless you really want to. Its never been reliable.

It seems to me that you would still want to mention the build number, but maybe you mean the stuff past first two groups is essentially irrelevant. Keep in mind that people look back at posts so when trying to troubleshoot things it would be helpful for both sides is build is mentioned.

I'll survive, but the general way IW hides its current version works against your team's cause IMO.

I have to think that strategy is coming from above you, as technical people know how critical specific info is when trying to decide to spend time troubleshooting.

Hang in there 🙂
