Add Wastewater (Sanitary Sewer) Utilities to InfraWorks

Add Wastewater (Sanitary Sewer) Utilities to InfraWorks

Add wastewater specific structures that connect to pipes similar to currrent storm pipes and structures in InfraWorks 360. Additions would include items such as cleanouts, plugs, reducers. Some structures could be dual purpose from storum such as Manholes. Also add wastewater pipes including materials such as vitrified clay, ductile iron, steel, stainless steel, concrete, pvc, sdr-26 pvc, sdr-35 pvc, and hdpe.

Could you elaborate on the use case you see for utilities including that detailled information.

Thanks,

A use case for this would be an RFQ for a proposed wastewater main line or for a proposed wastewater line to be added to a site.

I recently created an InfraWorks model for a proposed parking lot and restroom facility near some soccer fields. The proposed building was created in Revit and the sidewalk and parking lot was created in Civil 3D with Vehicle Tracking. Both of those were imported into InfraWorks. If I could have used AVT parking tools (posted here), added a waterline (posted here), and a wastewater line (this post) from within InfraWorks I could have saved some time for coordination between software packages and having to be more detailed (in Civil 3D) than necessary at a planning stage.

Possible workflow:

  1.  Create a 3d model of existing conditions beginning with Model Builder.
  2. Add existing wastewater lines and structures such as manholes and water main with fittings/appertunances based on gis data from shapefiles or industry model.
  3. Layout proposed parking and sidewalk.
  4. Add building from Revit.
  5. Adjust sidewalk and parking as required.
  6. Add proposed wastewater lines and waterlines based on default rule sets for minimum cover and resize pipes as needed.
  7. Add time lapse for existing utilities (if portion needs to be replaced with larger pipe size or larger manhole).
  8. Add cars, trees, landscaping, and people.
  9. Create still renderings and/or videos of the proposed site.

One of the reasons this would have helped with my project is that we had several options for where to place the building. If everything except the building could have been created within InfraWorks, the proposal feature of InfraWorks could have been used to show the two different scenarios and calculate quantities for each. I visualize moving the building in the alternate proposals and having the wastewater and water lines stay connected to the model or at least having a connection point that could be moved to the new location and have the wastewater line adjust to the new location and depth needed for minimum cover. Also a warning should be shown if minimum slope for that pipe size couldn't be maintained and still hit the flowline out at the existing wasteater manhole. Adding an optional "allow override of minimum depth" for individual pipes would be useful as well as pay depths and quantities for the tranch safety costs.

Hope that helps.
