Unable to Open the Model "Roads Tutorial (April 2018)

Hi,

I just installed Infraworks, but when I try to open the tutorial I get the message:

"Unable to open the model "Roads Tutorial (April 2108)"

What do I need to do to fix this problem?

Thanks,

-Edwin

Hi,

Just checking back in. I am still not able to open the "Roads Tutorial (April 2018). I get a "downloading" dialog box for a second or two, and then I get the dialog with the message "Unable to Open Model". This looks like really cool software (Infraworks), but I'm not having any luck getting it to open a model.

If anyone has had the same problem and has got it resolved, please let me know... Thanks!

I am not sure why you cannot open the Sample model. Are you on a Trial license, or are you on Subscription? Can you create a new model and add features, or create a model using Model Builder?

Hi,

I work at the City of Greenville, SC. We have a subscription, but right now I'm running the trial. Yes, I can create a new model from scratch. My problem is I can't open the tutorial models or anything I create using Model Builder. Do you want me to send you the log files? Thanks.

Seth, I have not stopped trying to get the Tutorial files and model builder files to download & open. Trying a lot of stuff and I've put my IT guys on it. I have attached a screenshot of the message log. This is the log that's generated when I try to download/open a model builder file. Please take a look at the screenshot and give me some ideas on what I need to do to fix this problem. Thanks, -Edwin

 Hi @Anonymous

I am sorry, I must have missed your last response. Personally, I don't see anything in the log that I recognize as an issue.

You mentioned you are on Subscription, but you are currently using a trial version. To rule out any account issues, could you please have another user log into InfraWorks on your machine and see if they have the same issues?

Seth,

Thanks for your help. I have made sure I'm subscribed now, so I'm not running the trial version now. I'm logged in with my AutoDesk 360 account when I run Infraworks. This has not made any difference - still cannot download/open the tutorial models or any other models I create with model builder. In the message log, there are lines which read "Service Exception (55)...." and "Model download failed with 2560". Does this give us any clue about why the download is failing? or what is causing it (the City's firewall, etc.)...

Hi @Anonymous

I honestly don't know much about firewall issues/proxy settings but here are some knowledge base articles that may help:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/INFMDR/ENU/?caas=caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Login-to-Autodesk-Infraworks-360-does-not-work-when-using-a-Proxy-Server.html

This one even mentions your

ServiceException.cpp(55)

Just downloaded the newest version of IW and updates. I get a message that states "unable to open model" with no code. We had issues with the proxy settings in the past so that had been disable. The error has just recently started to occur. I am not sure if it is our IT department security upgrades or issues with the new build of IW. I notice the symbol on the model has went from a cloud to a globe with arrow. And it prompts "you can rename download" which I have never seen prior to upgrade. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Hey @Anonymous

The globe with an arrow icon indicates it is a model created by Model Builder, but you are not untitled for BIM360. Essentially this is a cloud model, until you download (with the option to rename). Once downloaded, the model is deleted from the cloud, and only exists locally.

Was the "unable to open model" model created in a newer version?

The newest IW version available to download. I am trying to narrow it down as our IT has done security upgrades recently. I can upgrade and open already created local and cloud models, this is just happening with new model builder models that have never been opened before.

When I delete the cache off the C drive of the old cloud models and then try to open I get the same "unable to open the model" message. So seems like something is preventing the download?

Just checking back in. No one who takes care of the software/IT has made any progress. Wondering if there are any updates from Autodesks end. Thanks

Hi,

I had the same issue it was driving me nuts and then I tried this.

I have windows 10 don't know if its the same in all.

Go to the start menu>Network and internet>Proxy and shut off automatically detect settings.

See link below.

Using AIW 19.0 , I too was unable to open that model. I turned off the Network Proxy auto detect setting as you suggested and still the model would not open. I rebooted the computer and then reset the Network Proxy auto detect setting to ON. The model did finally open. Yes, this is odd.

I've been having the same issue. New download, can't open any models (but was able to create one). Definitely have a subscription.

I tried rerouting the cache locations to a local drive. I tried turning on and off the automatic proxy detection. Still nothing.

When I try to open the model, it asks me to rename, if I press okay it acts like it's downloading and then I get the message that it's unable to open the model.

Could you send along your log files after you attempt to download and open a model?

Here you go. It will only let me add three, so I am adding the ones that I think I adjusted the settings and tried again.

I've since tried opening the application as an administrator, and that seemed to get me a little further, but after the model downloaded, it disappeared from my list of models. If I go to "open" I can see the files, but I get an error saying something about read/write privileges.

I figured it out. I created a folder on my C drive and moved all the files to there and was finally able to open a model.

Glad to hear that. I looked over the logs and saw that the trouble ocurred on non drive C drives. Normally, if a student of mine has that sort of issue, I would get them to re-install "normally" (i.e. on drive C) and use that drive only since other drives are sometimes restricted.
