Unable to open model Git exit code: 128

Hi,

I have problem to open model. In the log file there is following message:

Git repo: E:/Infraworks-data/Models/Tirsova/Tirsova.files
Git exit code: 128
Git output:
fatal: not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git

Logs from yesterday, when I was able to work with model, and today are in the attachment.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Goran

Hi @g.senica ,

is your E: drive a mapped cloud drive?

If yes, then it's the expalanation for your model corruption.

The cloud drive changes file names and extensions of InfraWorks model database files.

Saving models to cloud drives and even other network drives (i.e. in a Citrix environment) is not supported for the above reasons. The ugly thing is that you might not notice immediately, but some time later. From your log files it looks as if the problems started yesterday already.

Regards,
Karsten.

Hi Karsten,

My drive E: is local drive, it is not mapped cloud drive.

Hi @g.senica ,

hm, then it's strange as it looks as if git files of your model are missing.

Is it possible to share your model, means create a zip file of your model.sqlite and model.files folder and share it?

Regards,

Karsten

Hi Karsten,

On the link you can find zip file with model.sqlite and model.files folder

Hi @g.senica ,

thanks for the model, I can confirm the error message.

I tried to recover it and loaded the result to a OneDrive folder and just sent you an invite.

Could you please double check the model if the result is usable? To recover the model some data needed to be removed.

Regards,

Karsten.

Hi @g.senica ,

the reason why you model is corrupt is because the git files in the model are overwritten and filled with "NULL" values.

For example, open file "..\Tirsova.files\unver\.git\config" in a text editor and compare it with a config file at the same place from a working model. The working model shows ASCII data that you can read, the broken model shows just cryptic NULL values.

Even though you mentioned that your E: drive is a local drive, the above issue usually happens if models are saved to network drives.

Karsten.

Hi Karsten,

Thank you very much for your effort. My drive E: is definitely local drive, but location of models isn't the default location drive:\users\user\Documents\Autodesk InfraWorks Models\

I didn't mention that yesterday, during the work on this model, InfraWorks was crashed because of low memory for model rendering or something similar.

Tomorrow, I will try with your model.

Goran

Hi @g.senica ,

thanks for the additional information.

Usually, InfraWorks writes data into the database when you close the model or the program.

With a crash, the program might not have enough time to write the data, hence resulting in a corrupt model.

Regards,

Karsten.

Hi Karsten,

Thanks again for model you sent to me. I can confirm your model can be opened. Some things are missing. Actually last proposal P5 could not be open and there is message in the proposals: warning: ignoring broken ref refs\heads\P5

There are some interesting things. When i copied text files from .git and unver\.git folders which are in your model, to the broken model, broken model could be opened. I have the same message for proposal P5, but in the current proposal P4, there are some elements from the proposal P5. It looks like the proposals P4 and P5 are swapped.

Hi @g.senica ,

thanks for your feedback. We are testing a "model recovery tool" that will be shipped with InfraWorks one future day and feedback is valuable.

Please keep in mind that an InfraWorks model is a database. It might work to edit files manually on a first glance, but there could be issues some time later when working with the model.

Regards,

Karsten.
