Traffic

Hello,

I am new to Infraworks, and we have been recently using it to visualize traffic data for some projects.

I have a couple questions, regarding traffic demand that I have not been able to find an answer to in the manual or forums.

When we define demand tables from origin to destination, lets say for a 1 hour window, how does the traffic fluctuate during this hour? Is it random? Or if I state for example that 100 cars are going from A to B during that hour, these 100 cars are launched at a steady rate during the whole hour?

Also, if I have data for cars during an hour, but it fluctuates in 15 min segments, could I make a simulation of this hour window having these fluctuations taken in account?

Thank you!

InfraWorks simulates using Stochastic methodologies (random) which is what MicroSimulation, also called Monte Carlo Simulation, is based on. So, demands will be randomized during your simulation periods.

As far as controlling the percentages of these random demands, you can create a profile name under Demands > Profiles. Here, you can create as many cluster percentages as needed (i.e. 4 @ 25%) to control the demand during the entire simulation period. Finally, when creating the demand, select this Profile name to be used when creating the Origin-Destination Matrix.

Thank you,
