Terrain Statistics does not work with Grading areas from Shp

Hi all, there seems to be something broken in Infraworks.  I'm working on workflows to bring in Grading areas as shp files. It works great, especially when I have multiple platforms, I can set the elevations automatically using GIS attributes with the SET ELEVATION in the draping pull down and use the attribute data for ELEVATION. But the problem is, when I look at the terrain statistics for the grading area, it gives me zero Cut/Fill values. But it works fine when I create manual grading using the IW grading tools. Is this a limitation of the software? Or am I doing something wrong?

The image below shows my shp file import on the left, showing zero Cut/Fill values. On the right, a simple platform using the Create Grading tool, but it gives Cut/Fill Values.

@Karsten.Saenger I can confirm it does the same on my end.

Hi @wilsonm2000 , @ToddRogers-WPM ,

I found this article that sounds like an explanation.

Does it make sense?

Hi @Karsten.Saenger

I did try modifying the imported grading area, including renaming, moving grips and rotating, but still doesn't give any statistics. Unless there are other mods it means?

Hi @wilsonm2000 ,

ok, I have created a support case for you and will take a closer look at this issue.
I will report any findings to this thread as well.

Karsten.

Hi @wilsonm2000 ,

I can confirm the behavior and the issue was discussed in forum thread https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/infraworks-forum/imported-shp-file-as-land-areas-shows-0-cut-amp-fill...before.

@cezarferreirabarbalho found a nice workaround with "copy" + "paste in place".

Regards,
Karsten.

I’ll test it tomorrow, thanks.  Do you know if it works with multiple platforms?  A pain if you have to do it one at a time.

Yes, it worked.

@Karsten.Saenger I tried it, and it worked, but that work around isn't much use to us going forward.  Once you paste them back in, they loose their link to the original shp file.  We need them to remain linked.  As when we update the shp files (rotation, size etc) we refresh in IW, and all platforms update automatically, along with grading.  It's ok if there is one or two platforms, but we have many platforms.

Will this issue be sorted at some point?  With that other post being nearly 4 years old, I assume not?

Hi @wilsonm2000 ,

thank you for your feedback. I see what you mean and admit that it would be nice to get terrain statistics for the imported grading areas.

I have created a new idea on the InfraWorks Ideas pages: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/infraworks-ideas/terrain-statistics-cut-and-fill-for-imported-grading...

Fell free to vote and write comments.

Karsten.
