Anyone know how to create sidewalk cuts into medians and crossings at intersections such as attached? On my wishlist for Infraworks.

Hi @oriole_phillips,

Unfortunately this type of behavior is not available in IW at this time.

When you say wishlist, do you mean your personal wishlist, or have you added it to the InfraWorks 360 Ideastation? If you have not added it, I highly recommend doing so: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/infraworks-360-ideastation/idb-p/129/tab/most-recent

In general, sidewalks and bike paths have a different desgin logic and details versus roads - so we need a "path" type of alignments. I post this on Idea station.....

I've been playing around with a mixture of design roads, component roads, planning roads, and decorations option for attaining sidewalk cuts for crosswalks, but haven't quite found a solution I really like yet. Hopefully this idea on the IdeaStation will continue to gain steam and we can see a more formal solution for this in the product soon. For now, here's what i have attempted. Feel free to share any progress you've made on this.

Thanks,

Elliott

  • Design road with zebra crossing decoration and barriers sketched at crossing… I still need to somehow offset the median greenspace so it doesn’t extend into intersection, and also adjust sidewalks if possible so there is a smooth ramped entrance of crosswalk into roadway:sidewalk_1.jpg

  • Component roads with three little patches of planning roads representing the crosswalk area. Planning roads are sunk a tiny bit to create the cuts, but I am getting cuts on 4 sides rather than 2, as desired:sidewalk_2.png

I gave up on the idea of getting it to work in Infraworks (for now). I've made a couple medians with crosswalk depressions, but I cheat completely and use Sketchup, then bring them in as City Furniture. If you get your street/striping just right, it can look somewhat convincing.

Looks great. I really wish Infraworks could do this tho.

I posted about something similar to this in the IdeaStation. Basically adding the ability to add priority levels to roadway components. Take a look at the link below and vote it up if you think it's something worth having.

Something like this? Mine walk crossing is not at the median nose but it crosses a divided road with median. What I basically did was create a sidewalk with curbs. Then used component roads for the main roads. Then drew in my sidewalk. Then adjusted the intersection radius. Not great but it will do for now lol. 2016-05-19_22-51-08.png
