Hi all,
We currently don't use Infraworks at my place of work, during lockdown I have decided I will learn everything I can about Infraworks so I can teach my colleagues when I return to the office.
First question:
When should I use the Model Builder and when should I just use the "New" option and specify a co-ordinate system? Is it best practice to specify the same co-ordinate system used in my Civil 3D drawings, or is LL84 good enough for all situations in Infraworks?
All my Civil 3D projects are based in New Zealand co-ordinate systems (NZGD2000 Meridional Circuits). I plan on importing corridors, EG and FG surfaces.

@m_kingdon , LL84 is not good enough for all design purpose. if coordinate systems are different, Alignment length might be different between Civil 3D and IW. This may not be the result you want. You will need use new model options. if you don't have any design data available, then model builder will a good choice since you can get the data very easily.
Hope helps,
Looking foward your feedback about importing corridor to Infraworks.
Thanks,

Thanks. That pretty much answers my question. One last thing, is it possible to bring in data from the model builder (LL84) to a new model?
I have a site with limited EG surface data. I would really like to bring in LL84 data and then overlay my EG surface with draped aerial on top.

Hi @m_kingdon
you could export your Model Builder model to IMX and import this into your own model.
Roads, terrain and buildings can be carried over that way. For aerial imagery you need to load the Bing Maps again via data sources -add database data source.
Regards,
Karsten.
